You can buy a box of Preptic Pads at the chemist.Clean with that a few times and gone.

They are important in a first aid kit as well

Isopropyl alchohol swabs.... also work for sterilising things.... :) not that great for cleaning wounds... soap and water works well - if you must, then you can use a chlorhexidine (hibiscrub) based soap for washing the wound, but it's usually unnecessary for home based use, especially if you add antiseptic after washing - it's what we normally use for scrubbing up before gloving up... :)

After you have done whatever the good doc V12man tells you to do get a dressing made by TIELLE called hydropolymer Adhesive Dressing and stick it over the wound. The dressing allows the wound to heal naturally and provides a barrier to stop your pants sticking to the scab. You'll be cycling in a few minutes.

A number of World Tour teams use these to get riders through races.

I've also never had problems, just once, I wanted to wear my favourite pair of pants and the chamois was not quite dry yet. I took a chance and grabbed it off the line. BEEEG mistake, 60km later in the saddle I was not my usual jokey self......to say the least.

Soooo..... when is that first triathlon happening? Will you be changing into dry shorts during the first transition?

Prevention is best cure here. Make sure you are clean BEFORE you put your bibs on. Good bibs and chamois cream go a long way to stop this. When I first started riding I thought it ridiculous to spend R2000 on a pair of shorts, but once you have you will realize its the best money you have ever spent. If you then get a saddle sore I have found that cleaning it with SS and then applying teatree oil gets rid of them within a couple of days.

Friars IS 95 odd percent ethanol.... I have just had several patients with contact dermatitis as a result of using it, so I am not a fan. The active ingredient in SS also has local anaesthetic properties, so despite the initial sting, it works better than most things. And for raw blisters, it is the best thing.

The SS doesn't create contact dermatitis, V12'?

I have sensitive skin you know
