When I am on leave in CPT I will ride Suikerbossie nearly daily. I find it much harder when racing (obviously!) Hekpoort at pace (my pedestrian version) kills me.

This makes me really excited for next Saturday!

Vrekpoort is actually not that bad.  Rated 12th on the pain scale of SA climbs I have done

So 5.2% avg gradient - far cry from the 10% avg gradient over 4km advertised....

So, just to confirm - you do go over helkpoort on both 80 and 106km version right?  I am making a last minute decision to enter and need to decide which race to do - no point if 80k skips the climb, but if it does include hekpoort then doing a shorter sharper full gas ride seems rather appealing...?

As far as I know yes.

The extra 20 odd comes from the loop you do going over the Harties dam and then links again on the normal route

Ja, looking at the map that seems clear but the route profile on the entry site is a bit confusing - one of them must be incorrect.

Based on this looks like they have different start and end points which I am sure is not correct..

The 80km definitely includes the climb.

That map and profile of the 80km is incorrect.  Both distances start at Route 66.

The extra loop comes from the loop that the 106 does around the back of Magalies and then past Bekker schools

Roughly the firts 40km and last 30km should look the same on both profiles because the distances follow the same route up to the turn off to Hekpoort and then again from the start of Hekpoort.  The 106 does a little 26km loop around Bekker schools

Hekpoort is much bigger than Suikerbossie

Agreed. Suikerbossie is nothing, don't know why riders keep going on about it.

In terms of climbs, it's a pimple, nothing more. Capies need to HTFU.

Watchit....I'm a capie :-)

Hekpoort is steeper and higher than Ou Kaapse Weg

5.2% ave gradient sounds about right for Hekpoort. The distance is what makes it difficult.

And although you are probably all right about it being harder than Suikerbossie, it is not too bad when compared to Long Tom Pass and Spitskop in the Panorama/Jock.
