I suppose it's a message from the powers that be that a 48 year old father should not behave like his 14 year old teenager son.

BS age ain't nothing but a number, I have a mate who is well into his 40's as well & blast massive air on the dirt jumps with a 20" BMX, just get the technique right & you can show any youngster a trick or 2.

Heal up soon man.

Just ask those who've asked whether they've heard of Fight Club...

1st rule of Fight Club: You don't talk about Fight Club!

2nd rule of Fight Club: You do not talk about Fight Club!

The last time I played around like that I broke one of my front teeth, fractured the bone that the tooth secures into, broke a finger and had nasty roasties on my lips, chin, upper lip and nose as well as a large chunk of flesh missing from my pinky and a few of the knuckles.
Moral of the story - if you're going to mess around, make sure that the brakes are the right way around!

Glad you are ok enough to tell the story! :) Not sure about you guys but face planting has made me a bit nervous on my bike.. At least I landed in semi soft sand at Van Gaalens. Still jumpy of doing the same thing though. :D  Chicks may dig scars, but not on themselves! hehehe

Happened to me coming down Mellville Koppies at pace one Sunday morning. Pedal got hooked on a small shrub and I careened down the rock garden on my face.

Wasn't a pretty sight and didn't even improve my looks!

Took about 3 weeks before I started looking semi-normal again.

This 49 Year old Father does the same with his 14 year old Son.

Also went OTB but luckily was in the dirt and very soft, only got a bruised EGO :whistling:

I'm with the Swiss on that, at 51 I'll still act like a kid on my bike, much the the wife's horror.

edit, that's probably why i look so old in my avatar pic

You're doing it wrong.

Your story should go as follows: Some oke grabbed a young lady's handbag, you ran after only to find he had a few friends, long story short, you put up a bit a fight for said lady's handbag and got it back for her. It was the right thing to do and you won a kiss on the cheek and made the young lady's week.

Just another case of "use it or loose it" and maintaing two different skill sets...... riding skill and falling skill. Riding skill includes all activities to maintain a gravity defiant position on the bike, while falling skill is the ability to artfully acomodate gravity's function without suffering seriaaaas injury (both phyically and emotionally).

But there is a inverse relationship between these skill sets......if riding skill is low, falling skill is high......and if riding skill is high, falling skill is low. The solution: maintain riding skill high while developing fallling skill set. Just make sure the training environment is accommodating.

Healing vibes.......and get back on the bike.
