Eish! Expect another increase on 01 November 2015! The R60 is only valid until 30 October 2015. Get the activity card and enjoy Tokai!

I'm going tomorrow!  Not going to risk it going up.  My permit expired just in time

Pic taken today at picnic spot pay Hut....official looking......

M. Interesting pricing differential between picnickers/braaiists and cycling me thinks.

To go into the picnic area you pay R20 plus R20 per vehicle. Presumably the area has to be cleaned every Monday after the weekends festivities and has seen recent upgrades including an electric fence. Tho I'm not sure if that's to keep the baboons out or the revelers in.

I wonder if I'm going to have to pay R20 to take my truck in on the next build day.

This opens up more questions

Until now kids have ridden for free, but by the looks of this they are expected to pay to be there?

It may refer to the braai area, but but it is so ambiguous.

Ya, the gripe is the massive price increases that are foisted on us without consultation. Cape nature don't pay anything towards trails and the ticket cost is a reflection of this. TMNP are just milking us well healed Capies ( and a few tourists) to boost revenue to pay for other parks that lack a captive audience.  All good to a point, and the point is the lack of funding and development they do for us. Imagine what R150k per annum could for Tokai if it was spent wisely ie on Bennet or Mr G Spot.

Got my new permit today at Tokai office...R430....from 1st Nov...R450, so my guess is they want more Wild Card buyers....

New permit is paid for then in 7.5 visits. .....Still think that the day visitor rate gets supplied with a super sized jar of vasaline!

Oil based lubricants such as vaseline don't work well. Waterbased wor... Nevermind

While R60 for a day permit is daylight robbery, I was glad to hear while renewing my Activity Card yesterday that the rates are only going up R20 1 Nov and not the R70 of the last few years, and even better not the 33% we thought it might be!

These permits are a joke though, I lost my card in April or so on the mountain and just never got round to getting a replacement, and not once was I asked to produce it when signing in at the gate. Please not it was still valid till this month so I wasn't cheating the system.

Really?  How do you get in then?  I get stopped every time that I go in at the gate in Tokai (if I'm there before 5pm) and also quite often along the road in Silvermine if I've ridden in up Ou Wapad.

Agreed, whenever I go before about 5pm I get asked for my card.

lots of parks to maintain, not just Tokai.

That is true, but the other SANP controlled parks with MTB access/facilities don't charge nearly the same amount.

Harkerville being an example, their yearly pass (IIRC I paid R195 for mine) gets you access to other parks in the George/Knysna area too.

does that mean that at some stage it will be tokai's turn to see some of the entrance money being pumped back into the trails?
