I regularily see guys / girls riding expensive bikes during the week going to work in their work clothes...wearing proper cycling shoes. Sometimes they even have flat pedals with their work shoes but these are mostly on cheaper bikes.

Where is this?  South Africa or Planet Zug?  That will definately change the scenario.

All that these overlly sensitive peeps are accomplishing is deterring people from reporting suspeicious activity in fear of being called insensitive.

So the next time I see a guy with a balaclava carrying a bike and a TV over a wall, I will not come post it here.

I mean maybe his front gate was broken, his ears were cold and all he wanted to do was go for an afternoon ride and drop a broken TV off at the repair shop on the way back.

hahahah, you guys are so sensative. Look i see everyday people riding bikes. There is a dude who commutes on an old eddy mercx in a jeans and a jersey who i see regularly. There is a garden dude with an old school Peugeot, with a weed eater strapped to it, as well as a guy with a tandem with all sorts of implements. No the guy in an overall with a pino

Well I can understand the concern and for me it is probably a 50/50 chance its stolen. However lets not forget lots of guys ride in non cycling gear as well. I even do it lots of times, especially if I go to a friend in the next neigbourhood etc

C'mon Swiss. You're arguing semantics. We're looking at the reality of this situation! Werksaam asseblief!

I'm not denying the reality, just pointing out that the assumption that blue overall / blue collar types cannot own an expensive bike is silly.

But seeing you brought it up, let's argue

Why not call a spade a spade and just say it how it was (an assumption) i.e. some coloured chap wearing blue from the township was spotted riding a bike he could never afford?

I honestly don't see what the issue is...OP spotted something he felt was suspicious, made comment on 'who am I to judge' but still felt it was important enough to post, just in case it would help reunite someone with their bike JUST IN CASE....Good on you OP, surely this is what a community is all about. And if it was me in the blue overalls riding my Pina and I saw this...I'd honestly have a good laugh and introduce myself and I certainly wouldn't be offended in any way what-so-ever...

Been following this thread all day, this is funny.

and dont be fooled, lots of guys living in townships and even low income areas can and actually do own these types of bikes

Sure no doubt, I don't think this is a racial issue at all...but merely a numbers game. If you lined up a 1000 people who wear blue overalls to work, how many would own a Pina? and of those that can afford the Pina, how many would wear their overalls while riding the bike? Small chance really, but still a chance no matter how statistically low...however OP was well within his right to post this...

Let's work with the facts:

It is incorrect to title a thread "Stolen.." If there is no evidence / data to support this.

That is prejudicial.

The same old nonsense of negatively biased view on anyone with lesser class.

Now "Possibly" or "Likely" is a more responsible statement and, above all else, correct.

Ja bru, but there's too much arguing and not enough really being said to validate the amount of arguing. It's a simple thing dude. In Utopia anyone should be able to own whatever they like and use it however they want. In the real world, when sh1te looks dodge, more than 90% of the time it is. Back in RSA it's even more regular to see this type of thing. If you know the Stellenbosch Arterial road, you would know why you would prefer not to ride your Pina there whether you're in overalls anyway!

Yes agreed, speculative until proven otherwise...
