I love them all, don't give a damn so long I'm riding my bicycle. Today I did Ou Kaapse, chappies and constantia nek, just climbs on the roadie. A month ago I did the Tip Trans, basically roadie distance on gravel road 115km. Last week I did the durbie dash, some climbs and ST. tomorrow I go to work on the roadie. The next day I go via the mountain on the Mtb, next weekend I will ride up to Silvermine and talk alot of K@k, I will decide what to do next after that.If I had the time I would do the DC, if I had the money I would do the Epic. I just love riding my bikes, anywhere, any distance, any terrain. just ride!

for me mountain biking is the peace and  tranquility one experiences out in the mountain or bush no cars no hustle and bustle a lot like hiking or trail running just a lot quicker. Nothing beats the view from the top of the hill or mountain or the downhill that you busted your lungs for. Racing is not the be all and end of mountain biking

There is no right answer here - a little of everything is a winner.

Dirt roads for fitness and talking ***, smooth swooping single track to get your flow on, tight tech droppy rocky stuff to get the juices flowing - depends on your mood/goals.

agree 100%

Ai, can someone please loan me their DeLorean ?

I want to go back to 1989 when I got my first MTB and nobody really gave a toss .

Its not really about giving a toss, its more just me wanting to understand what most people ride the most.

Dont get me wrong, Im happy with anything as long as Im on my bike. I just prefer doing distances on road and the fun stuff offroad.

I am a dirt roady. But I have a valid excuse... I can't see well, so doing the rough stuff is a problem. I can't make out most things on the trails and slow down to make sure of what lays ahead.

I agree! Why must there be one right way of doing mtb'ing? Just go out and ride, some days I bomb down some singletrack, other days I test my endurance on dirt roads or go really fast on my road bike. As long as I'm cycling I'm happy!

My riding used to be more xc style, I had the fitness but not much skills on the dh /enduro abilities.

Now I find I need to go back to the distance riding ,as I have focused so much on the enduro and need to ride harder to get fitness up.

Nice to mix the rides up,different goals.

Even better if you can be good in both ,though.

Dirt Roadie for fitness but start to enjoy the XC a lot.  XC is fun.

But actually.... as long as I am on my bike.  :)

I come from a road and tri background. Been doing road for a good many years.

Long story short I did some trail runs at places that reminded me what was awesome about mtb. I last owned a mtb about 15 years ago so I went out and bought one.

Decided to hook up with some local guys but it seems my idea of mtb is different to most other peoples.

Looks like its mostly dirt roadie stuff, looking for max distance etc.

Is it just me that thinks mtb should be about singletrack and riding through the bush/forests rather than just bombing down the longest dirt roads you can find?

Hi Rocket-Boy, I see you also from good old slummies, I now spend my time down in stellies but do a bit of mtbing when back home, if you looking for the non dirt roadie stuff go treat yourself for a few rides out at 3 silos mtb farm(on the road to Stut about 8km outside Beacon bay) they have a two routes 22km and 18 km if memory serves correct or otherwise there is a few other options, check here http://ecmtb.co.za/ for some route options. Hope this helps

okay first of all.

Lets talk about that stick you holding in you pp.

Looks lekker. Rounded pintail fish? Twin keel fin?

How does she go?

The last board I shaped was a fish.

I really wanted to go pintail but went for the safe choice instead.

Traditional swallow tail. Just curious how they surf.

Dont see too many of them around...

it was shaped by lampz shapes back in EL(great shaper by the way) in the pic it looks alot shorter and plumper than it is. its got a fuller nose and a bit of with into the round pin with thruster set up(wish it was a quad) but with the extra thickness it paddles into waves well ,, definately something to look for if you wanting a new stick... i think they call them evo pods or hybrids or something along those lines

I love the speed on tar and the technical challenge in the single track.  For me gravel district road is neither of the two, so not that keen. ( This is why I own a 26" mtb and a road bike......29"mtb  is no use to me  )
