110kg guy on ZTR Crests

A well built set of crests might serve a heavier guy really well, but will u really have the 100% confidence to really "ride" your bike?!

Arch ex on novatec hubs are also a cheaper option, don't skimp on decent spokes either, nice set of dt Swiss will do the biz. And never underestimate the value of a great wheel builder, you want those two round things to look after you!

Good luck

I bought my Arch EX's when i was about 110kgs. Worked perfectly. Apparently Crests are good for up to 95/100 I think and Arch's for the rest. Could be wrong.

Im still on my Archs.

After looking at this picture:

It seems like the Flox Ex must be even stronger than Arch EX?

So on to my next question - where do I find a good wheel builder in Cape Town? (Northern Suburbs preferred)

Rebuild your hubs and spokes (If possible) onto ArchEX rims.

Or sell yours outright and buy a custom built set of ArcEX rims on Hope hubs.

My brother in law knocks around your weight and had endless hassles with the stock Crest rims on his Silverback. He rides Arch EX rims on Hope hubs now and hasn't had a days hassle.

You can keep the Crests but they will break eventually. Mine took about 6 months. I am also 110 Kg and eventually pretzeled the back. They cant handle the weight.

Gone to Arch EX - no problems since then....

How about these:

DT Swiss X1800

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/99176-dt-swiss-x1800-29er-wheelset/

Quite difficult to google and see weight restrictions of wheels, cant find these one's recommended limits for example..

I don't really want to fork out an additional R6000 for wheels.

I have a set of these, and they're bulletproof. Not the lightest, but super strong, and I'm not what you'd call a finesse rider.

I personally wouldn't ride them, they came standard on my new bike and I've swapped them out for a heavier rated wheel set... I'm in the early 90's

I ride Crest wheels and I weigh 86kg, starting to worry now!

You are right at the weight limit.... If 65kg me can pretzel a crest (done 2 so far) , then you can easily.... :)

At 110kg, a crest is a receipe for disaster - one slightly off landing and you are coming down hard.... even from a minor bump...  Definately want a set of Flow EX's at that weight.

Sorry to wake up such an old thread. Just wondering how this turned out for you.

I have the same bike as you, with the Crest rims.

Just started riding it and am also concerned about the weight. I weigh just a few kilos less than what you did when you posted. At around 105kg.

Did you ride on the crests for a while, or go for the Flows / Arch ex.

Would be happy to do a swop if anyone is keen. Mine are basically new.

Don't wait for feedback. Swap them out if you can and go for Arch MK3's or Flow while you can. Get wheels you can ride with confidence

dont touch the arch mk3, myself and numerous others had issues with them cracking around the nipples. apparently a known issue

they are extremely fragile!

mk2's were bullet proof though
