I have the torkcraft one, it serves my purpose, nothing fancy though.

I think the big difference lies in the ease of use of the adjusters and clamping mechanisms that they use...

and of course you pay a bit extra for the big names too ;)

Guess it's the entire Torkcraft brand, a load of cheap chinese ***

Torkcraft works. But I have used both and park one is just more sturdy in everyway. I have to clamp my bike on top tube because of dropper so torkcraft works well. If I could justify park tool one to wife I would have it.

I use my PCS-9 pretty much every day, even if just to hold my bike as a stand - and also use it to clamp my hand luggage scale to weigh bikes and parts - the clamp is secure and does not scratch paint, and it grips enough that I don't have to overtighten it on my carbon frame or post.

I't's nice and clean, and I keep it that way, so there's no beef when it lands up in the lounge for a day or two.

So I am leaning towards building a cheap stand short term then in a month or two getting a park tool one.

Nothing worse than tools that dont work.

Then I too can stand in my garden and work on my bikes commando ( wife complains about me walking around complex in Bib - Dont think she will like me freeballing)

Leave the cheap stand and out that money towards a higher quality stand in two months time .

This thread got me thinking.. Chatted to a buddy late yesterday who owns an engineering business..

He is more than confident that he would be able to produce a stand similar to the PCS-10, just as robust, maybe not as flashy, but will do the job.

If we can get the selling price in the region of R1500 would people be interested in buying?

I have a Tacx T3075 stand I would like to sell as it doesn't cater for the through axel on my 29er. Otherwise it's a great stand and very sturdy.

Looking for R1200 neg.

Good advice here.  A good workstand is an investment that will be of great value as long as you ride bikes, which in many cases will be the rest of your life. It is one of those items where good ergonomics will quickly make you forget about paying a little bit extra.
