The Cotic Escapade frame et al is ready... Just waiting for the wheels, then it'll be ready to tear up some single-track this weekend   :w00t:  :nuke:

She is done :w00t:   ... and the 1st ride could not have been any more fun!!!

I decided to take the Cotic out on a local MTB single-track (https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/169101-riverfields-mtb-single-track/), and ended up grinding a RED route with some MTB fanatics...  :cursing:

Once I got the hang of the feel of the bike, and the (strange) concept of taking a roud-like bike on a MTB track, the Cotic kept up with the off-roaders - even though the technical bits.

CycloCross is definately the style of riding I was looking for!!!

Hi Guys

I am moving to the UK early next year, so I have decided to convert my one Canondale flash (I have two of them  :whistling: ) into a monstercross/cyclocross/adventurebike type thingy.

I will keep the original lefty fork (as its light enough and very comfy). I will also keep the stans arch wheels, and run 1x10 set up. Looking to use a set of salsa wood chipper bars with sti road type levers. Looking to make the bike comfortable for long european touring and general commuting duties.

I have a few questions.

1. What are the thinnest CX type tyres I could still run tubless on the said rims?

2 Would a 10spd sti lever work with a 10spd xt rear derailer?

3. What is the easiest way to get the brakes to work, could I run a set of shimano road cable calipers paired to the sti leavers?

4. How comfy are the wood chipper bars?

thanks in advance.

Hi Guys

I am moving to the UK early next year, (lucky you)

I have a few questions.

1. What are the thinnest CX type tyres I could still run tubless on the said rims? (I am running 32 and 35 and I am sure you could go thinner)

2 Would a 10spd sti lever work with a 10spd xt rear derailer?  Done it on a converted 9sp road bike with XT rear)

3. What is the easiest way to get the brakes to work, could I run a set of shimano road cable calipers paired to the sti leavers? (Dont see why not.)

4. How comfy are the wood chipper bars? (Have not used Chippers but Luxy, Mary and Carneigie.  Find the half drop flares much, much more comfortable)

thanks in advance.

I stand corrected.....?

I'm not sure 10 speed and 11 speed road to mtb stuff is compatible.. 8 and 9 speed yes, but they changed the pull ratio if I remember correctly.

Give it a go and see, but I seem to think not.

2. Yes, it will work perfectly. Shimano run's the same cable pull for rear deraillers, while road and mtb front mechs are incompatible.

SRAM 10 spd stuff is all interchangeable between road and mtb. I've seen DH bikes with X0 shifters running road derailleurs without issues. I'm sure it's works the other way as well.

As far as tyres go the Arch rims are 21mm wide so if it was me I wouldn't go thinner than 38c tyres. Just my 2c.

Jip, SRAM cable pull is the same for everything. Makes for some awesome CX builds.
