A dark Africa lays ahead.....load shedding

Assuming you are correct,  who benefits? According to their CFO, not Eskom, because even if the requested tariffs were granted, it not even close to being enough. The blackouts are not doing are economy any good and is likely straining backroom deals Ramaphosa struck in Switzerland (hence him being reportedly angry about the recent turn of events).

There's always the pro-zuma/pro-koko acolytes. The zumas and kokos of this country never gave a toss about the country or it's ppl, except where it suited them, and the spilling of bosasa guts could actually hurt them for a change.

Then there was a  missive from the Eskom CEO, in which he declares sabotage as a non-starter, Bbut goes into a bit of prose about how it would be unthinkable, and beyond the conscience of Eskom's professionals. It's curious because why state it's not something, but then go and appeal to professional, patriotic conscience to prevent the something.

Very odd, very curious IMO.

So other than political power play, self-destructive behavior, or status quo a consequence of what's gone before, who or what is left?

It's a political power play. They are showing Ramaphosa who is really in control. I for one, do not swallow this technical problems BS the week following Ramaphosa's speech. Where were the technical issues the week before?

I wish I knew. Could it be as simple as a magician using distraction and misdirection to get the country to look away from something? The Zondo commission?  (Oh, no, now I sound like a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist nutcase  )

Also want to add that I don't think this was orchestrated by the management of Eskom, but by the unions following the split up news. Ramaphosa's reaction about the load shedding was tell tale. He was furious and shocked (lol), If it was a management thing about the fee increase, his reaction would have been different as he would already know about it from the regular meetings between the ministry and the management. Pravin would have known what was about to happen.

Also, 'technical problems' shows that this is something under control by the workforce.

I work at a small manufacturing plant. It costs us about R200 an hour to keep a generator online to run some basic machinery....that's another R800 odd a day to find....or another R16,000 odd a month.....no way we can afford this over another 3 or 4 months. Not that it will happen but as tax and VAT payers we should be able to claim a refund...

How can Squirrel be shocked about the Eskom state of affairs if there is no power??  :whistling:

The cANCer cannot dig too deep into the the overspending at the power stations, as they themselves (as a political party) benefited hugely through it. Some of the companies owned or affiliated to the cANCer received huge contracts, for services either not rendered, or sub standard service, or just the completely wrong items was that supplied / fitted.

Nope, they have their hands in this cookie jar, up to their elbows.

And it does not bother them one bit.

This is how Independant Power Producers (IPP) start. Connect with neighboring businesses, each one puts in an investment for renewables - over time the investment pays for itself. If your grid is big enough you might even be able to "sell" electricity back to the grid or surrounding areas.

Could we still reach a complete black out with load shedding?

Or will we remain on schedule 4 load shedding to avoid a black-out?

How long will it take for some of the anchor stations to supply stability to the grit if we reach a black-out.

I'm contemplating of increasing my fuel reserves for my generator

Nope, unbeknownst (actually spelt that right) to us Eskom now has 8 Loadshedding stages. So we're still pretty far from a Blackout situation.

Although previous rounds of this debilitating nonsense has been around this time of the year - when the coal is 'wet' ffs

But sure, there could be an aspect of economic sabotage by those who are benefiting from this current situation. I know the great employees of Jhb City Power wrecked a few substations when their overtime scam was cut.

I hope they realise that if Eskom goes FUBAR then the job losses will be much more severe. The tax paying public can't keep on funding a bloated entity with a salary bill that outstrips it's income

Ja, these idiots....dumb as they come...

This is where a little bit of education is a dangerous thing....
