" In an interview with Cyclingnews, USA Cycling Director of Communications Bill Kellick said, “It is important to note that the only riders that are affected are riders that have registered with the UCI on a UCI team. This does not affect mountain bike pro riders who are NOT on UCI-registered teams." For that reason, several teams have modified their roster to give athletes more flexibility in the events they participate in. "

So how many guys riding the Argus will be on UCI teams...cos according to this article it applies to those riders only...excluding the Manx missile and his buddy of course...apologies if posted already.

If this was a retirement plan I would agree with you totaly (kind of what I have done with my retirement plan) but it is not - it’s a non profit sports associassion! While this is happening you are basically “steeling” from the members the benefits that they could be receiving while been a member of the association. Basically I am saying the money should be devoted to upliftment etc. on an annual basis not when you think you have enough in the kitty - because that day will never come!!!

Oh PLEASE. Tell me members are not getting value for their R310 a year?  As a member I know I am.

The money the PPA receives from the CTCT is a windfall and cannot be treated as an ongoing certainty with so many greedy parties wanting a share of it....  This thread is about just one of these.

Interesting article Urbanroyal.  Thanks for posting.
But like MANY rules of UCI, it all depends on how CSA will interpret it ON THE DAY.  And the next day it might be different.......

Also struggling to understand how sound investment strategy for the long term is a bad thing...

It's called the Jacob and Julius Management School. Short term gains trump long term vision, and the incumbent director strips assets so the balance sheet looks good and then walks off with a nice bonus for his good work.

SAA is probably the best example we have of this.

It also speaks to creating equality by destroying wealth instead of creating it.

Some folk will never understand.

You miss the bigger component: the R35 day licence fee for the majority of the 35,000 riders...

In reality CSA does provide the commissaires for the racing bunches, in this case the Elite Men and Women, to oversea race safety and rules. Without these guys the pros would no doubt take massive risks in the sprints with impunity. I believe it was always agreed that this part of the race would be sanctioned.

It is quite common for only the racing bunches to be sanctioned, take Ride London as an example.

You forgot about the "Rider Levy @ R6 - R10 per rider"

http://www.cyclingsa.com/news-and-press/2015/1/27/cycling-sa-event-sanctioning

And per the link above:

"Cycling SA has the vision to promote social cohesion and participation equality. We, as the National Federation, will not penalise any of our members or licensed riders for participating in events not listed on our national calendar, or events unsanctioned by Cycling SA, as this would be counter-productive."

So what now? Will they (CSA) enforce the rule, or not?

The post I responded to only listed the R10 levy, I added the licence fee.

Amazing that we get the chance to bring Cav to South Africa to raise funds for MAD and CSA takes this bizarre stance,  Has Fat Pat come back as a CSA committee member?

This is why I love adventure racing. No national body, none of this petty politics.

We just get to go ride our mountain bikes, paddle our boats, yog our trails.

Would a national body grow the sport, maybe?

Can you go do world champs? Sure just go qualify/apply, rock up and race.

Bottom line is: The sheer timing of this announcement smacks of bad intention.

I don't really get this. Or perhaps I don't understand it.

This rule that was suspended is an international thing coming from the UCI. The UCI, an international organization, has decided to revoke the suspension on the rule prohibiting licensed riders from racing in non UCI sanctions events.

To me it seems unlikely the the UCI has done this to target the CTCT. I know the CTCT is a big deal but I don't think it even makes it on the agenda compared to the International racing scene.

Do you think that the UCI has revoked the suspension over the CTCT? To me that just seems unlikely. I could be wrong of course. Now CSA has to follow the rules and the implementation of the rules as dictated by the UCI so we are now in this situation.

Not for long though.  Check out what happened to surfski racing and the fight they had/still have with the ICF.

Can anyone then please explain why Ben Swift road the DC this year, or was this a UCI sanctioned race? Does the DC have UCI accreditation....

He rode as a guest with the HotChilee team because the UCI had suspended the "Forbidden Races" rule. Won't be able to do it this year unless something changes.

Until SASCOC get hold of you...
