If I had to wash your bike, I think R120 is ridiculously low! If you have to wash my bike, I think R120 is ridiculously high! Just saying.

I hope they used 29er specific water...

By in all seriousness, I would have made a massive scene and told them to **** right off. And insisted they pay for a respect fr the scratch too. Let them feel what being screwed feels like.

My bike technician charges R84.00. The "wash" includes degreasing/cleaning rear sprocket, chain, chainrings, proper wheel/tyre/spoke/hub wash, brake calipers brush clean, saddle scrub and polish and frame polish.

Edit: - and guaranteed hand-wash. No blasting of high pressure water past bearing seals and suspension wipers

My bike gets washed for free when it is serviced. Even minor services. Bull to charge never mind that amount. At Sabie on the weekend, with a captive market, they charged R30 for a wash and R45 to include drive train. Well worth it befor driving back to JHB.

I own a service station in the East Rand. I charge the guys R30 for a bike wash. Including chain being properly cleaned.

R120 is ridiculous! On the R30 I still make a little bit of profit aswell!

It takes me at least an hour to properly wash, degrease and lube my mountain bike, i would happily pay somebody R120 to save me that time provided its done properly and when asked for.

Isnt bike washes part of services? Sjoe.

If the bike was very dirty, had grime build up and required some parts to be removed, soaked etc... then charging is fair though.

In the case of the OP it came back dirtier. Also I highly doubt anyone would wash bike like i do at any cost.

And remember lads. It's a bike, not a piano!

I always try to drop my bike off in a clean state at the shop. The exception is when something goes wrong on my morning ride and I go straight to the shop to have it looked at. Even then I apologise for bringing a dirty bike in. I know many shops who will not touch a dirty bike, and for good reason. If their policy states that the bike should be clean when it gets there, otherwise they will wash it and charge you, then you should cough it up.
