carbon29er Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Now to let the wolf out of the bag and the tiger among the pidgeons. ROAD CYCLING is an ELITEIST UPPER CLASS sport, where entry is limited by equipment costs, inside dealing, a elusive code and culture. Poor people, and even middle class people are not welcome, regardless of colour. If you don´t have rich parents or wiling sponsors you will never really be welcome, no matter how good you are. SAD TRUTHOh dear. This beats the post in the Camps Bay thread about safety being ignored due to PPA slugging it out with CSA over the cycle tour. Have you checked the backgrounds of the 200 odd guys who make up the peloton at the 3 major tours? Not much different to the guys who make it to the top in football. Except Kaka of course, his family was a wealthy Brazilian family. And Froome who went to a private school. But even he went to his first competitions on borrowed equipment. You see, middle class or wealthy children don't seem to have the hunger for sacrifice to get them out of the crappy existence their parents have given them.
Kranswurm Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Without a fair hearing? Without credible witnesses and weighed evidence? Without a judgement and a punishment to fit the crime? I fear for the future of cycling if this is how it should be done.I am sure due process will be done...and then throw the book at them and ban themThere is too much of that going on and it must be stamped out.It happens far more than you realise.

Relevant in Europe and South America but totally off the mark in South Africa. If your hypothesis was true South Africa would dominate world cycling...........
GlockG4 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 The two highlighted parts are very contradictory and hypocritical. How can you say one must have thicker skin, just after you said you take offence to those terms.Taking offence and letting it go because its not that big a deal, and taking offence and destroying someons life is the difference.
carbon29er Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Relevant in Europe and South America but totally off the mark in South Africa. If your hypothesis was true South Africa would dominate world cycling........... Okay, I'll engage. Please name a few successful road cyclists who have made it on the world stage who come from upper class South African families. Edit: added quote
Max001 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 When last was a white, as you so quaintly put it, called the k word? Isn't that the point of this thread?Right on the money Mr 29er.my sentiments exactly...'....
TALUS Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 When someone calls me white they are stating the obvious. Ditto when I call someone black. Calling someone a K.... is ONLY done to insult. Not acceptable - ever.
G e r h a r d Odendaal Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Kaka did the right thing by coming up for the youngster, hope those guys get a lot of punctures
Danger Dassie Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Okay, I'll engage. To name just a few off the top of my head in road cycling.... Robbie HunterDavid GeorgeJohn Lee AugustynLouis MeintjiesRyan CoxDaryl Impey
HDW Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 P.S. These are genuine questions, are you offended when someone refers to you as "whitey" & has there been a case where someone was convicted as being Racists for calling someone "whitey" ?Not at all, but it is because I choose to not be offended by it. That doesn't matter though, what matters is the intent of the person uttering the racial insult. If a white man calls a black man the K word, and a black man calls a white man a whitey or a boer, and the intention is to be racist and insult the other party, what difference is there? Being convicted of being racist by using a certain word is, for me, missing the point Your thoughts and and your attitude, and what is in your heart, determines whether you are racist or not. Not the words you speak (although this is one way of showing racist tendencies). If a group of black people sings "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer", it is def referring to something more than just a white man. It is referring to another race in a derogatory manner And vice versa.
floatfox Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 This whole thing has been blown up completely...I have a very simple solution. If everyone rides mountain bikes then it wont matter if you get pushed of the road, you just continue riding..hahahaha
HDW Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 When someone calls me white they are stating the obvious. Ditto when I call someone black. Calling someone a K.... is ONLY done to insult. Not acceptable - ever. But you as a white man can call someone black as a means to insult them. It's all in how you express it. Eg, if a black guy cuts you off in traffic, and you call him a "stupid black man", then there is possibly some racism involved there. Only the naive would believe you are merely referring to the colour of his skin

SAD TRUTHComplete nonsense on so many levels. First of all why Road Cycling specifically? MTB is as expensive to set up and vastly more expensive on a monthly cost basis. Secondly cycling has always had a history of being a working mans way out of poverty. I can point to many top cyclists from the past that bare that out. Perhaps read a few biographies and see just how middle class the sport is. Wiggins from a single parent lower middle class home. Cavendish very middle class. A host of east Europens come from poor backgrounds. It's cycling. Not ocean yacht racing
