carbon29er Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 What about middle class/upper middle class. To name just a few off the top of my head in road cycling.... Robbie HunterDavid GeorgeJohn Lee AugustynLouis MeintjiesRyan CoxDaryl Impey All born with silver spoons in their mouths? Come on, the quote I posted clearly stated even kids from middle class families could not get started in the sport. I personally do not know the backgrounds of any of the 6 guys quoted but I doubt they holidayed abroad 3 or 4 times a year as kids. Talent and ability has nothing to do with class. As I pointed out to the outrageous claim that only rich kids make it in cycling.
milky4130 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Guilty party also messaged Luthando apologising for using the K word
EmptyB Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I'll wait for the whole story of what actually happened..........
Danger Dassie Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 All born with silver spoons in their mouths? As I pointed out to the outrageous claim that only rich kids make it in cycling. Your points conflict one another. You also clearly stated "You see, middle class or wealthy children don't seem to have the hunger for sacrifice to get them out of the crappy existence their parents have given them." That's why I clearly said, middle class/upper middle class. Seems both yourself and paddaman are talking in circles.
milky4130 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Not at all, but it is because I choose to not be offended by it. That doesn't matter though, what matters is the intent of the person uttering the racial insult. If a white man calls a black man the K word, and a black man calls a white man a whitey or a boer, and the intention is to be racist and insult the other party, what difference is there? Being convicted of being racist by using a certain word is, for me, missing the point Your thoughts and and your attitude, and what is in your heart, determines whether you are racist or not. Not the words you speak (although this is one way of showing racist tendencies). If a group of black people sings "Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer", it is def referring to something more than just a white man. It is referring to another race in a derogatory manner And vice versa.there is history to this k word & lots of sensitivity around it. Remember a year or 2 or 3 ago that black politician who told a black journalist "don't be a k" & he got into trouble for that.
JanJan Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Honestly: As long as there are platforms to 'debate/discuss'racism, racism will fester itself there. Talking about it doesn't solve it. Ignore the urge to give your opinion. Please!!! Prime examples: News24 comment section, sharing Steve's 'Ope briewe' on FB and this fred. I think Dusty, Christiaan and Kaka settled this incident on their own, thats why they are racing again.
Joe Low Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 there is history to this k word & lots of sensitivity around it. Remember a year or 2 or 3 ago that black politician who told a black journalist "don't be a k" & he got into trouble for that. Rightly or wrongly the word is taboo and its best (and easy enough) to avoid it. There's plenty of other ways to express racism that's more nuanced and open to debate and it can be from any group to any other group. The common factors in any expression would be ignorance and a mean spirit on the part of the individual concerned.

marko35s Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Without a fair hearing? Without credible witnesses and weighed evidence? Without a judgement and a punishment to fit the crime? I fear for the future of cycling if this is how it should be done. Will you please stop bringing common sense, good judgement and adult sensibilities to this thread please. The mob needs someone, anyone, to burn. Doesn't matter if they are guilty as long as the hunt is a good one...
Eldron Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Ban them for lifeDamn straight! We don't need no truth or trial - we read it on a cycling forum so it must be 100% true. Burn them - burn them alllllllllll!
Surv0MTB Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Well if the tosser apologised to the defendant then he has admitted guilt. Apology or not, he should be banned.
KarlvN Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Nope. One's a racial slur, the other one is insulting the guys stupidity, which is independent of race. Ciggie butt throwers ARE selfish imbecilic gits. Fact Alright Capitan, I digress, and apologize unreservedly for any offence caused by my enraged state. I am just real tired of having to live like I need to apologize for being white. I do not condone the use of the K word. I am guilty of using it in the past. I do have black and coloured friends and we hang out often. We braai at my house and theirs. My black buddy, Sivu, even made an outrageous potjie a couple months back. Man, that was good. Even then, why must I apologize for being who I am. Was it my fault that Sivu grew up on his grandfathers piece of land as a cattle herder until he could go to school? No. Do I think our forefathers did the wrong thing by bringing about apartheid? yes. Am I guilty? no. Am I sorry? yes. Do I wish it was different? yes. Can I change it? maybe, in my direct sphere of influence. Will I carry on living like all of SA's problems are the direct result of white influence? NO, I have chosen to move on. My orginal comment may have been misconstrued, as I merely meant that it is easy to cry wolf when there was possibly no wolf around. Why would the Kaka dude get his lawyers involved if he was so innocent? And if one reads his lawyers comment, it sounds like another instance where all of a sudden the black kid's plight is brought to the fore and a skewed picture of white on black oppression is blasted into the lime light. Point in fact where the kid's Khayelitsha story is mentioned. What has that got to do with anything. He is already competing is he not. He has already beat the odds of most of his compatriots. He has already risen above the rest of his peers. Now all of a sudden he is the poor black kid who got beat up by two racist monsters. What the two guys who pushed him did WAS wrong. But unless I read it wrong, NO ONE is asking WHY they pushed the kid. Speaking for myself, if I klap someone, he probably deserved it. In steps Kaka, and enflames an already volatile situation, and I will bet my bottom dollar that he started the racist retoric, but that will not be reported on. FLAME SUIT OFF.
Slowbee Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Mod note: Posts hidden. Karl, make sure you familiarise yourself with the forum rules. You may NOT bring discussions from one thread into another. To the others - personal insults are out. Baiting is out. And Admin will not hesitate to suspend or ban anyone hurling racial insults.
jules1976 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I think it would be more accurate to say that there are at least 3 sides to every story...and this truth creature you refer to is very elusive.that's the problem right there !
