Hi guys,

We all have an opinion and will never agree with each other, but for me a bicycle race is a bicycle race. Some are more beautifull than others and the Argus is definitely special. But for me the fun of the race is to get away from work etc etc and spend a weekend with either friends or family or both. That is still on for most of us, and a good outing is still guaranteed.

Put up with the changes for this year and have a joll. Just be carefull doing it.

Regards

Sarge

I'm sad that I'll be missing this one. Could have been fun, but I think that if I made it to the Toad, I'd have stayed there

Has anyone considered the reason that the CTCT has been kept short is because the emergency services, who have been working flat out this week, or been on standby in-case of a major disaster if the fires took off into built up areas, would have been working for a week by Sunday, and perhaps a bike ride is not that great a deal in the big scheme of things. Those same emergency services I imagine will be using a skeleton staff on Sunday for the CTCT, okay maybe more than that, but they have to be on standby for the Argus again.

Watching a bit of rugby here on Saturday and then a lekker ride on Sunday

Sounds like a perfect weekend to me

Ok for Stormers and Sharks fans but what must us Lions fans do after been beaten by the Stormers and Sharks.

A former colleague of mine lost her home to the fire last night. She is devastated but thankful that she, her family and her animals made it out alive. She says she will get over it. Maybe, just maybe, given enough time, some of the more peeved hubbers will get over the loss of their 61km. I know its going to be difficult, but hang in there guys, time has a way of healing everything.

I am a Lion, so glad we aren't playing against the Stormers on Saturday night at Newlands

Don`t think I could handle another disappointment in one weekend

I hear you.....

But I think the general meaning of the question is this:

Surely with an event of this magnitude and budget they would have had a chance in the past say.....what.....38 years??! that the event has taken place at some point thought about plan B?

Maybe I am just a person that sees risk and plans ahead.......I have expected too much.

I'm glad you are not the guy at my insurance firm calculating my premiums. If you do not even consider it "low risk" to assume that you can ride on a public road...

So you think the Monaco F1 course has an alternative route? Or Centre Court at Wimbledon? Or champs elysees where the TDF ends?

Plan B would have been Boyes Drive instead of Main road incase of roadworks, plan C would have been Ou Kaapse Weg instead of Chappies incase of rock falls, plan D would have been Ou Kaapse weg, Chappies instead of Muizenberg and Boyes Drive incase of other problems going up say Smitswinkel and a shortened route. I think the current plan is plan J or K in terms of risk assessment.

Funny you should say that, but they do

It was clear on Monday that all those "might" not work, so they could have done a proper route plan north, for the "just incase"

Seems they lacked serious foresight

it feels like groundhog day... ok genius, which start venue could host 35 000 people, and where do they finish? Remember that any national road (i.e. road that starts with an "N") is out of bounds, and also remember that between 5000 and 10 000 riders stay in Cape Town within cycling distance to the start, so it will have to be close to a station or bus stop to transport these guys too. Remember also that full road closure is required, so where ever you go, you need to inform residents, have an alternative route for people to get in and out and have safe areas for emergency services and water points. Since its all so simple, I am waiting for your proposal in this regard.

yes they do, but they don't finish the Tour in Nice because they have road works on the Champs, nor do they move the Monaco GP on a Wednesday evening of the race weekend to Belgium.
