I am in Simon's Town and if I look across the bay it is very dark. Got to wonder if someone is starting these fires. Just seems too crazy that this is all happening. I hope the fire fighters can bring it under control. My thoughts go out to them and hope they are safe.

Also keep in mind - they are 1 x chopper & pilot less this time round!!

Incredible how we went from contained fire and clear sky's over Stell last night to a red sun and ash over everything this morning. Wind, fire and mountains make for some really unpredictable conditions....

Just a thought: Didn't Cape Pine have a plan to withdraw from Jonkers over the next X years? If plantations are gone will they end operations sooner?

As with the fires on this side, it was a week of winning in the day and losing at night. The aerial support makes a massive difference.

heard an interview on the radio with a chopper pilot. He said the choppers don't put out the fire (maybe a little bit) but just cool it down enough for the ground crews to get close enough to do the job.

:( Jonkers was such a great place to ride, one of the best places in the world, this is just terrible. Lets hope the fire does not go over into Lourensford, Franschoek or Grabouw. Lets hope that there is no long term negatives from this. MTO Forestry got massive fire damage in Tokai and Jonkers, and a fire was started in their Grabouw plantation too about 2 weeks ago.

Yes, also choppers primary purpose is to place the ground crews . .. the watering  is secondary ...
