Should I say it for you! That price AND no road closures...

I'll take pics for you dude! Entered and after 2 years of pottering about will be giving it full horns again this year! (Amazing how quickly your seeding falls when you stop racing fast times...)

See you there, TH.

It was my first ever race and I'm all sentimental about that.

I'm in and thanks to Safair, Durban - CT R729 including 1 suitcase and 1 bike.  Schweeet!

Wow what a deal.  I used points on SAA and BA and paid more in taxes and fees than you did for the whole flight and that is without a bike checked in.

BTW what ride East Coast doing this weekend on Sat and Sun in prep for Shova?

Really miss Old bumpy Helz though

It's not quite the same without old Helz! Definitely one of my favourite races, the only race I have done every year since I've started cycling.

Was there ever any official response (ie not hub speculation) as to why Old Hels was taken out of the route? That was an amazing climb.

Last I saw of it on this years Burger MTB was not very good. I guess they took it out because it has deteriorated quite a bit over the last two years.

It was deemed too dangerous, the last time it was used there was a nasty accident with a commissionaire/tandem/racing group. After that it was no longer feasible.

Put a slightly longer gap between the top racing groups and you should be fine.

You arent going to see them taking cobblestone roads out of races because people fall.....

Yes the road isnt great BUT it was my favorite part of the burger. Im sure a lot of guys like it way more than the new one.

I dont know what it is but once I am under the trees I barely feel the climb. Compared to the new one that is just a long steady sufferfeast all the way up.

I'll miss the Old Helshoogte Pass as well! The new pass might be smoother and wider, but it's boring, painful and full of impatient motorists.

Have to agree, I liked the fact that Die Burger used the Old Pass. On the MTB you go down it, on the road ride you went up it. That is kind of what gave Die Burger it's signature feature.
