Emperors Palace Classic 2015

VA went out a lot faster than I thought it would. There were more people in the group than I thought and therefore the teams were on the attack.

They attacked constantly, started at the back so not sure if there was a break we were trying to catch?

Found myself towards the front in the last few KMs, but lost out on the last turn onto the straight and the sprint group got a small gap on the rest. Think we came in around 2h20.

ps: Anybody know why they neutralized VB in the middle for a bit, nobody seems to understand it.

Lots of crashes in C as well

I only saw one.

Must say a big thanks to the two or three guys that worked so well in the front of CL. Basically the whole way.

Good marshalling, bike marshal with us was excellent. Near the end is pretty crazy, but then again, is also up to the individuals to keep themselves safe.

Great event.

I think it's because of the VC break of two being in front of the VBs, and the commissaire forcing a gap.  That's also why the one car kept riding in the middle of the VB bunch.

They were in front for a bit, and then one of them punctured, and they regrouped.  Then they neutralised the VBs.

Metro police resources must have been stretched, Emperors cycle race and Birchwood 21/10KM road running race same day, same vicinity.

Well my day started off good in DL today.. all the way till that accident.

Got taken out and had to ride the last bit with a banged up knee, brused arse

and a broken seat. Some guys looked bad.

Hope they all recover soon with no big issues.

I stoped at the water point grabbed some cups and placed them on the seat post

just to help me get home as the legs were begining to cramp.

Bring on next year :)

I counted four crashes in DL. The first was just after Carnival City on the R23. Four of us worked hard for about 5km to get back onto the main bunch, after getting caught up in the aftermath. The worst was definitely the last one at 75km. Some guys hit the deck very hard. I lost contact with the group heading up Rondebult Road in Parkdene. Soloed home for 2h42ish. One of my favourite events.

Was my first Emperors road race today and quite enjoyed it.

Next year I am in for the full distance.

Question with regards to yesterday's MTB race.

Where does SS Timing suck their numbers out of for final times?

I was meant to start in A batch but fell back to B to ride with my sister.

Our final times have her as 9 minutes quicker, yet we crossed the line almost simultaneously.

Ok, I accept that my time could have 5 minutes difference between the two batch starting times, but that doesn't account for the other 4+ minutes (I've already lodged the query with them).

Makes me realise just how much I like Racetec's system with the chip...

First road race in 19 years. Did the 102km on a mountain bike. It was hard work from KL batch. Managed a 3:09. Happy with result.

Saw one guy that looked like he might have been hit by a car, was getting oxygen.

On the return before Carnival City? Saw similar, looked like a front bumper on the road by crash scene.

Did a 3'09 from the depths of H, happy with that - easiest race in Gauteng but still a good ride. Couple of needless (?) crashes in the bunch, and one spread across the road in front of me that i was relieved to avoid.

C&C - take your garmin back to the shop if it said 650mtrs climbing!

Mine also says 633m of climbing and 103km.

Thanks to the lead group in KL, helped me do a 2:48 on my first road race! Apparently I needed a "chip" to log my time....rookie mistake  . perhaps next time.

Bit nervous in the group, but managed to dodge any serious mishaps. VERY different to MTB! Tons of riders.

Weather treated us kindly....Will do this one again.

awesome race, made sure I was in the front of the group around the Duduza hill section.

Avoided a crash at the start and another about 5 km before the finish.

Managed 23rd place overall with a time of 2:18 12 seconds behind the winners.

In the last 5 km I tried to reach the front of the group, going at 400 to 500 watts and a HR of 195 it was impossible, need to move up quicker next time
