Headshot, I like the Chariots of Fire music. :D

....but that little 20 m long stretch is waaaaay trickier than the camera angle makes it look. It is blooooody steep, off camber and loose as greased ball bearings on banana peel! Without a dropper post, most xc race bikes will drop their riders otb there. The bit above it is gnarly enough to make most riders seriously nervous, so, by the time they get there, they are all stiff with a death grip on the brakes, a recipe for otb.

No doubt those riders were being a lot more cautious than they otherwise would have been given that there is a long week ahead. I suspect that by the end of this week most will be able to fly over that slope. Today's rain will help compact the trails.

14 crooked collarbones i heard...now i see why

Knowing that particular little spot of my back yard, I'm not surprized.

Woops...

I know that videos don't always do the terrain justice (never looks as bad on a video as in the flesh), was it just really loose sandy section?

Would this be one of the cases of speed is your friend?

Edit:  My post got stuck somewhere those^^^ weren't there a moment ago...

But I thought 29'rs rolled over everything...

Seriously though it looked like lack of speed did for most of them.

The only elite men's team I saw go down there (on tv) was Platt and Huber.. and Platt flew down there.

Guys thanks, but this is  not my video - a friend posted it on a MTB group I am a mamber of and it was made by a friend of his.  According to my friend, who has ridden that section, its easy if you have skills/balls and don't drag your brakes... I'll reserve judgment until I have ridden it myself, if we're allowed to after the race...

Yup, all you can do there is to just let it run and keep your weight as far back as you can. Braking is the one sure thing that will burn your collarbone!
