How often do you ride alone?

75% of the time alone..

I always tell someone where I am riding and approx time I should be home.

Also have an sos app on my phone that we a button is pushed it sends a predetermined message (I F'ed up, send everyone and beer) to preset emails/numbers or even twitter/facebook.  And it includes GPS location.  There is also a another app that I need to install (can't recall the name, but us available) that sends the same emergency message as above, but when you haven't moved for a set time, this is handy because by phone is pouched on my bike and we may end up a couple meters from each other and then I can't push the button.

I also have a list of emergency numbers saved in my phone from poison to snake bite centres and also SANPARKS emergency services.. I have been lead to believe that if you can a normal EMS they will send an ambulance first and only once they have tried for hours to hike to you will call for a chopper lift, whereas if you call SANPARKS first, they check location and dispatch chopper if need be.

Ride on my own 90% of the time. If I am on my own it will be only road riding. If something happens then at least people will see you.

I will not venture off-road on my own, you could crash and be a few metres off the track and other riders won't see you. Where that guy in the cradle crashed, you wouldn't see him from the road unless you were looking.

I ride alone on and off. Installed Endomondo and have fiance track me via website. I prefer to not ride alone but unfortunately my riding partners don't get out often.

99% of the time.

I love riding alone.

Also no one to keep asking me "Are you OK?"........

This thread got me thinking though.

I'm starting a new thread 'What is your funniest or scariest (without consequence) incident when riding alone" I don't really want a list of horror stories, we have enough of that, so lets keep it light please.

Mostly ride alone. If its road then its out in The Cradle where its busy enough to cover any eventualities. If its MTB then its either Northern Farm or somewhere in between Kyalami and Bryanston - day time, week days and always visible.

I ride alone in the week - before work / in the dark.

Always ride the same route, which my wife knows, and I am back by 06h30.

Always carry a fully-charged cellphone; bombs, tube, tools etc; lots of water; goos and something to eat.

I always wear this: http://www.iceid.co.za/which has name, contact details, allergies, med aid etc.

Never!

I have a responsibility to look after club rides, not out of choice but to remind club members when they're riding irresponsibly, and to tell them when to slow down (for the members that were dropped along the way). The best part is when I can have a normal conversation with another member and don't have to shout "keep left", or "single file", etc., etc., etc.

The only time I get to ride alone is from home to the start of a club ride or race that is close to home. If I know the ride is a certain distance and I want extra mileage, then I'll do those extra miles on my own, close to home (a few before and a few after the ride).

Always ride with my cell phone and Strava running when im alone. If your PC is logged onto Strava at home your wife can track where you're riding. ( NOT ALWAYS THE BEST IDEA . :whistling:  ) but hey, safety first.

Besides the safety aspect there is the issue of mechanical issues when alone. So here's my 2cents where that's concerned.

Always have the necessary tools needed for whatever problem you might face.

Multitool ( WITH CHAINBREAKER )

tyre lever

Patch and solution ( For you and the bike )

Spare tube ( With slime ) for those sidewall slashes

Duct tape to temporarily repair the slashed tire and slap a tube in it.

Pump or gas

And last but not least

DO A CRASH COURSE ON GENERAL BIKE MAINTENANCE !!

So you actually know how to use these things..
