Happy to surprise you ;-) sponsors make racing possible and I'm very grateful to mine. However, it wouldn't make a difference if i didn't have sponsors. I love riding my bike and hopefully if I'm blessed with a long life i plan on enjoying riding till my last day ;-)

Good response

They will give the local weekend warriors carrots

By  now we should know a few things.

Local weekend warriors are legends in their own lunch tins.

Most of them talk a big game with good keyboard bashing.

Most of them think by just training hard they can be the next Sauser.

Yip, not just do many fall short of the genetically athletically gifted ability pool but also stood in the back of the queue when brain power was handed out .

All the best Max! Hope you guys have a great ride.

I feel for Kevin. Given the way he used to dominate the local scene back in the day, it surely can't be easy not being right up there at the sharpest end of the field. People tend to forget that he has a World Champs top 10.

But life and priorities change as one get older, I get that. Hoping to see you guys bringing it home on the beach in May.

The comment may seem a bit harsh, but I was honestly disappointed that very few African riders could keep up with the international field at this year's Epic (Scott Factory Racing excluded).

The African riders who did well were all XCO riders, who have different training regimes than those who focus solely on XCM. Maybe that is what made the difference. You guys have the experience and equipment to compete with the best, but just couldn't keep up. Clearly, the front runners are doing something different and I think it may be a more effective training regime.

We did well, look at the top 10 at Epic and see how many S.A. teams are in there.

Top 20 to top 10 is a massive difference, top 10 to top 5 also massive, top 5 to podium and the difference gets even bigger .

Most of the XCO guys train long hours in any case and then do speed and skill work for short course, mots top short course riders also have far better genetically gifted skills than most for technical, in the end of the day they are distance fit too .

Is this what they call back pedalling ?

Kudos to anyone who finishes an Epic

I think there's s difference between back pedaling and explaining your stance, I think that was the latter.

Edit: But back on topic, I think its a fair question though, I really thought they were going to do a bit better especially after their results at Trans Hajar, looked strong there!

No less than 4 teams inside the top ten GC including a strong stage win, and that's "very few" ?

The mind boggles.

Kevin and Max both come from XCO backgrounds incidentally. They didn't have their best epic most likely, they're human like everyone else. Bulls also fell short of their goals. That's racing.

It's one thing to be disappointed in your team's efforts and another to be a dick about it. Says more about the commentator than the team's performance.
Or maybe that's just old fashioned...

People really find it very hard to comprehend the vast differences in genetically gifted freaks, gifted people and hard training people.

The best riders on the world pitch at Epic, genetic freaks and everyone else should and will make peace with the fact that they are sucking hind tit.
