Agreed with most of the replies here.

Going to be hard racing

Entry is expensive

Route is SUPER boring!

ASG does this one.....

I'll hold on and see what Adventurerace comes up with regarding the "Mandela challenge" they did last year.

What I DO like about this event.....it is the first in a SERIES of events that will give you an overall seeding/rating and prizes etc......

I'm also holding out for now, hopefully something better comes out. The Mandela Challenge was truly one awesome race!

The Series is a very cool idea, but I hope they have a non-elite u/30 or amateur open category. Currently doing the Jock Cycle Tour and contemplating next years race down in the Cape (I'm not using any names... :whistling: ), so doing the Capital Classic does make sense then. Ah well, lets see!

Funny, Always when I drive on the N14 I said to myself, "this route would make a lekker race".

I know it is a bit boring, but It would be difficult to validate a road closure event with not enough participants.

To have an open road event through the city may be to much of a logistical challenge.

The 94.7 also started off as an open road event, so perhaps if there is enough support for closed race in PTA we can have a very nice race in a couple of years time, through and around PTA, including Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument, Church Square, Loftus and of course, Fort Klapperkop. O ja. and don't forget Hotel 224

Come on, lets support this with the future in mind.

Why do you come here with rational thoughts???

I really hope you are correct and this will grow to something as suggested, so here's to holding thumbs!

Marshals, or the lack thereof, is one of the reasons for this route. With very few intersections to man, it's one less expense to worry about.

I've never really understood the statement of a route being "boring"

Mates always talk about this view and that that landmark that we passed, I never know what they are going on about. I've come to realize that I'm bleeding out my eyeballs anyway trying to keep up, so I'm never going to notice the pretty stuff anyway.

If you are looking at the view you aren't pedalling hard enough ;)

Anyone remember the Silver Oak's race from about 2years ago? Now that was lekker. Much better than N14 out and back. I think that if the organisers of that event did a better job at communicating the race to the public/motorist it would have been a permanent feature on the calendar

So when 94,7 went out of their way to remove the N14 from the route because everyone hated it, ASG thinks it's a good plan to create a whole race of the same as what 30 000 people said they didn't want to ride? Good job.

R310 might be the dealbreaker for me.

The old Bakwaena race was super-fast as I remember it, though going out was a lot quicker than coming back.  How is the N14 going to compare - looks like it goes more south than west.

I loved the circuit race in Pretoria - it never seemed to drag because of all the stimulation of riding in the city.  I guess it annoyed motorists pretty much, but a real shame that one disappeared.
