Immoral or not... you tell me (dilemmas of a shop-owner)

What gets me is how this client expects to claim twice on the frame...

The only scenario would be to claim from insurance first and if they don't collect the frame for salvage then send it back to the supplier for warranty claim?

My OP was a scenario of what's been expected of me. Will just trust that in a small town like this it will not become business as usual as this a high-profile-upstanding-christian-pillar of the community-type of guy.

If his intention was, as you described in your OP, to knowingly defraud the insurance company/bike importer, then he can be neither a Christian nor a pillar of the community type of guy. He is in fact, no better than a common thief.

It is theft. It is also disgusting that a person would put the OP in such a position. Totally disrespectful. I would never do this to my LBS. This guy just assumes the OP would join in with what is a crime.

Client has a one year old bike, frame breaks(cause unknown but probably due to fall), claims from insurance, claim is successfull. He also claims ito warranty - claim is successful. Also requested to add other items to the claim that could have been damaged but hardly warrants a claim(..I am uncomfortable with the state of affairs) but we push ahead(client is the boss), shifters and derailleurs and chain and cassette, tyres, almost a new bike now.

Many stories like the one above....

Are we getting screwed by insurance companies because clients screwed them or is it the other way round?

Is it right to get compensated twice for the same thing? To add on to the list of breakages and in the end, after being compensated more than fully still insist on getting the old parts and keep on using it for months to come...

But , like I said the client is the boss...:(

So you say "BUT WE PUSH Ahead"

Correct me if I am wrong so you continued even when you knew what he wanted was wrong/illegal OR DID I MISS READ SOMETHING????

What should bother you is the this  high-profile-upstanding-christian-pillar of the community-type of guy ( ie the customer who rides with us  ) who is quite happy to commit a crime and not the the LBS owner who is clearly morally perturbed .... that why he asked us what we think is right

Why complain about it now if you aready went ahead?

Surely you could have approached the insurance before proceeding with the claim

That's why I thought,,,,....???did I miss something

You willingly took the insurance pay out on the fame and the parts you thought he shouldn't be claiming on, and you didn't inform either manufacturer or insurer of the 'double' claim ...because the client is Boss...

Nice cop out...possibly short sighted post when this post eventually winds it way back to either defrauded party you will be regretting this.. rightfully so.
