Cycling South Africa reports that veteran cyclist Austin Steyn returned an adverse analytical finding in an in-competition test conducted by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) on 12 October 2014 at the Amashova road race. The analytical report confirmed the presence of the Stimulant Phentermine in his urine sample.

Following the tribunal conducted by an Independent Doping Hearing Panel held on 24 March 2015, Mr. Steyn was found guilty and received a two year ban from all sport effective from 12 October 2014 to 11 October 2016.

Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the process and respects the outcome. Cycling SA further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will continue working with SAIDS in the promotion of a drug-free sport via its outreach and education programmes and extensive testing.

All cyclists are urged to avail themselves of all the resources available to them to ensure a drug-free career in sport. In addition, all cyclists are advised to exercise extreme caution at all times with regards to any food and/or medical products they may come into contact with.

How to go from Austin whoooo? to Austin the doper in quick gulp

Yes its Monday and I'm grumpy

Grumps, Looks like Austin whoooo?  turned the pedals with a reasonable  degree of competency returning 45th of 4445 competitors, and 5th out of the 1000 plus in his age group . As such he would not really have had much need to lose the weight.

Phentermine is not really a stimulant,  it is an  appetite suppressant  and weight loss drug.

It looks like he was bust for trying to lose weight.

As the UCI report said doping comes in many forms with many current 'dopers' using weight loss drugs to dramatically ditch the kegs improve & enhance the power weight ratio. Gains tend to be around 7% and look pretty good against some of the other more 'traditional' doping products which have a longer window to be picked up in tests.

Doesn't  look like he has much weight to lose if this is him.
