It looks easy on paper, i mean push out pin, insert quicklink and ride...but in reality

You need to insert the sram link so that the pin directional arrow is right...secondly, make sure the 10spd links lock(put bike on it back with wheels in the air, pull back brake and give the crank a hard tug...pin shoul be in place then) and then this little bugger is worth its weight in gold wrt issues...its light, small and fixes a bag of things...(from over tightened valves, stuck chainlinks..basically everything that needs a tang)

Plus one to this, I have seen these for R20. Essential item and does work. They are sold in most crazy store type places. I bought mine at Game stores.

To be honest, I randomly stop. Maybe my star sign. Sometimes I stop and give the guy a full service with every problem. Sometimes I do nothing.

Right, education by Hub continues. Just been out and bought a spare hanger to go into the bag along with all of the other stuff that I carry. I have been desperately trying to reduce the amount of *** that I carry, managed to drop the second tube and the shock pump, but now adding hanger etc so will see what happens. Any ideas on the best way to carry all of this stuff without a backpack, which I have been trying to get rid of for ages.

I try and do more calculated...see if there are issues on your bike its almost always tyre related and maybe chain every now and again. Pedals, shocks, pivot, cables, brakes giving issues are not impossible, but far less likely, also its sometimes not fixable on the trail so for those instances...if a cables tie and ductape cant do the trick, you phone home like ET.

So for tyres...2 bombs and adapter / snotplugs and tool / mini stans(think its about 60ml) / valve core / gator patch / tjoob that vacuum pack...this will fix all tyre related problems and if it can't be done either the tyre or wheel is fubar

Chain...2 chainlinks in their sram packaging / cable ties and mini leatherman.

Multitool and extras...parktool one and dropout hanger

All of the above except the tjoob which you can strap to the post with some duct fits into a ziplock sandwhich bag and goes into your middle back pocket no probs.

oh another very handy little thing are those compressed wipe pills....you pour water on them and boom they become a wet wipe, well worth the space and weight.

No-one likes riding after a mech with grease monkey hands

I had the same issue. Camelback had more tools than water! Get yourself a tool bottle. It replaces one of your water bottles sadly, hence the camelback with fresh H2O and a single water bottle with NOS in it.

Piece of advice I learnt on the HUB: Always place it in your bottle cage lid facing down, helps hold it closed and doesn't rattle open.

Also stuff a cloth or wrap everything in a cloth, prevents annoying rattles.

And then for the tube... Duct-tape it to your seat tube. Gets a bit dusty but works and is easy to get to. MTB tubes don't fit in the tool bottle... well my 29'er ones don't...

This combo works very well for me.

I ask if the person needs help before I stop.  If I can help, I help.  I don't really care about whether I see the person again.  Its a fellow cyclist that needs help, end of discussion.

Someday I will be happy when someone stops to help me out of a pinch. Reward enough.
