MTB G

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing a GPS device for riding.

Deciding between the following to products....

Garmin Edge 500     OR     Polar V650

Which one would you advise going with......already have a Garmin Heart Rate monitor but Polar includes one in the purchase.

PLEASE HELP.

Thanks

I have the Polar V650, and I'm very impressed.

I also had a look at the Garmin as they are similarly priced with similar functions, but the Polar just looked and felt better.

I also found the Polar easier to use with my full MTB gloves, and the front light comes in very handy when riding through tunnels during the day.

But both are very similar, so I guess it would come down to personal preference in the end.

Garmin all the way.

After my recent experience with the V800 (and many years on the Polar 520 and 720 etc) I have realised again Polar is for the "fitness enthusiast".

Garmin is a bit more sport orientated and training and almost feels hardcore compared.

Also, as Patchelicious pointed out, the Garmin will work with 3rd party apps and also ANT+ toys that you can buy afterwards.

Go have a look at the Mio Cyclo series. I ride with one and it is simply awesome, it is compatible with Garmin HR but there is also one included in the box.

Compares with the edge 1000 the price compares with edge 510. Best cycling GPS I've ever used on road and mtb

Can the Garmin 510 be used for races like J2c and Sani2C? I have an Edge 200 and it only tracks, altitude ect..

Yes. You can download a course and follow it.
