there are better packs from Salomon for this. Remember you are going to need to access food a lot, like every hour or so, and that has no front pockets, things like compass needs to be near by, and you don't want to hav to pull bag off every time.

Have to agree that the bag does not look like the right one for the job . Front storage space is very important .

it's a nice to have, but not the end all.

lots of nice frame options for kos these days, and not just a triathlong bag on the stem anynmore either.

can recommend the Osprey range too, really committed local support adventureInc http://www.ospreypacks.com/za/en/category/hydration/?trip-length=20-39L%20(All%20Day)

I've got a K-Way Kilimanjaro 35 pack - would this work?  It has many accessible pockets and storage areas, zips most of the way open, is pretty comfy and stays dry when it rains.

I like lots of smaller pockets . No scratching around for stuff but then again go and look at the bag Fanus used this year . Think it was made from brown beaver hide with a solid steel frame for support . Worked for him .

nothing wrong with that, just ride with it loaded and see how the straps feel on your lower back/shoulders.

another way to get some storage on the front is to attach a cheapo camera bag onto the shoulder straps.
