Well I found out last week, getting paid out 17k for my car this week.

That is savage ('cuse the pun), sorry to hear that. Hate insurance companies with a passion. If I insure it and it gets stolen/ totalled then give me the cash so I can replace it or replace it. I'm not a dealer, I can't get book value...

My ex always used to say "but it's just a bicycle. I don't get what the fuss is all about?"

My pet peeve is people advertising stuff in the classifieds with the wrong names/spelling for components. Just stop being lazy asses and read the name on the flippen thing so that you can spell it correctly.

Isnt that always the case?!?!

Its worse when you can see there was some effort in the component choice but the seller cant be bothered to look at the bike for correct spelling.

Friend: So I was riding my fixed gear.

Me: Oh, you have a fixed gear, you must be hard core.

...Later...

Friend: .. and so I was freewheeling down the hill and th..

Me: Hold on, I thought you said you were riding your fixed gear.

Friend: Yes. It only has one gear, the gearing is fixed.

Me: <sigh> Oh, you mean single speed....

Some other classics:

Cassette vs Cluster (of gears)

Big gear (which is the bigger gear? 11/12 or granny)

This is not helping. Tell us which one is the correct term, so that next time I go to a bike shop I don't have to ask them to replace the 'thing' by the wheel where the chain goes over ...

I ride a bike, but I am not a biker, ffs.

On the other hand, I usually just tell my lbs, "the bike feels heavier than it used to, you know," and see what they come up with. Mainly with the Conlago.

Dispenses with naming the details like pedal arms, brake handles, steering bar, front rims, stay seat, saddle post and those iffy things.

you have a bike shop that fixes age ? cause I swear my bike is heavier now that last year and I have not changed a thing! or rather, the bike shop has not changed a thing, not that I would know.

"I need a new rim", when asked by a non-English-speaker in a bike shop, can sometimes mean a rim, but often refers to a tyre, tube, whole wheel, or anything basically that's round.

I've heard "pedal axle" used for crank.

"Cleats" is often used to mean pedals.

You can add:

(Customer)  I  need a tube.

(Bike Shop)  What size tube do you need?

(Customer)  24 speed.

Oh and "How much to fix the machine"?

When my wife calls it "your bike" as opposed to using it's name.

Hahaa I'm so guilty of this .. The conversation in our house

Me: Mark, move move your bike

Mark: but look at her, she's so pretty.

Me: I don't care, move it.
