Think this was one of the worst road surfaces I have ridden. Chaos at the registration. But nice ride anyways...

To be honest, it was only the short piece of the Mamre road South of Atlantis that was very bumpy, perhaps 10 km? They did go to a lot of trouble to warn people of the worst potholes and even had a few marshals stand in the holes in the middle of the road waving a flag in the face of the bunches approaching at speed. That must have been a real nerve racking job.  At the start they apologised and said they tried their best to get an alternative route but could not get permission. Without the bumpy bit, this ride would have been canned.

I actually found that one part of the 99er worst last year..  We were warned road is going to crap so I just dropped pressure by 1bar on wheels and had relaxing ride. ..

The registration was breeze for me (I got there at 6:05), total of about 2 minutes.

The others in my group obviously was not having good day and swearing and bumping each other .. spoiled the ride for me, hope they either have mind shift or skip the next few races funrides

Geno, you were slow, avg of only 8.48km/h. Did you walk it? :whistling:

At least he didn't finish last  :whistling:

I would say he has some fitness work to do before next week's One Tonner...

I rode in E-F group but we started very slowly and we were soon caught by a massive G group that contained Cycles Direct + Outriders teams and they were really putting on the pace.

On the Mamre drag up the hill the bunch was soon split as the pace was pretty high and I managed to sit with the front guys pretty comfy. The pace was high throughout the race as it seemed to be a battle of the clubs.

With 10kms to go Cycles direct guys put in some hectic attacks after attacks but the bunch kept on bringing them back and even I managed to chase down 2 or 3 of their breaks and that really hurt me but I managed to recover and sit in the group as we took the right turn towards the finishing straight.

At the turn I lost a little ground to the front boys and thought that i was out for the sprint but then the guys started playing cat n mouse on the front so I got back and worked my way to the front. With 1 km to go I was 4th but then I almost got put in the gravel so I had to tap off and lost some ground.

1 rider from G went off the front and managed to take the sprint with me coming in 5th but I was kind of disappointed as I had the legs to challenge for the win but I have learnt some sprinting skills y-day and where to place myself in future.

I managed  1h56 but I forgot my racetec chip in the car and I have already contacted racetec and sent them my strava link.

All in all nice day of racing but just that piece of pothole road needs to be fixed or somehow a different route needs to be worked out.

1 Tonner this weekend is going to be a totally different kettle of fish.

I loved that bit of dirt on the 99er last year, I hope they bring it back in future. I hate the bit on the N7. I keep my tyres at 6 bar and never had issues.

Have to agree about the funride bit, there were a couple of the people in the G-H group that were way too serious while others were happy chappy folks - the kind I like. No doubt the upcoming One Tonner will be filled with the super serious types.

That Mamre Hill is called Never-ender

Quite fitting hey

We were strung out there like a long snake, huffing and puffing

You can say that again about NEVER ENDER Dale!!! it's about 12km climb we check. I was racing in Group C "and my first time". We went in to that hill with one HELLSE speed and I was like 5th in front when we attach there. I check around and at the my back and the group is rite at the back, thinking this climb will be fast over, OOOOOoooooo no!! that was just the lip and more after that, The group catch us so fast and it felt that i'm going bong out.

Lucky we form a small group with a Group A rider that join us "sounds he was drop with puncher" and he kept the group working and the bunch of us were working like damn good team. That was fun!!! till the last 10km, then group burst and everyone was just going for melkbos!!

Was a fun race!!
