Ironman race director assaulted

Sigh... typical behaviour of a self important "official".  She probably did not even know about the event and has never heard of a "tri-atha-lon", but thinks she has the right to go get pissed in public with her other "reveller friends" on the Durban beachfront, leaving the place looking like a pig sty every Saturday...

Unfortunately Tri is not exactly a "transformed" sport, so it will probably never get massive support from local governments, unless some enlightened officials look past that for the sports tourism benefits that events like Ironman can bring to a city (not very likely!)...

In a time when SA is in a tourism crisis thanks to the well thought out visa regulations imposed by the govenrment, you would think that Durban City would embrace the 6000+ racers and supporters (local tourists) who travelled to Durban and boosted the local economy over a winter weekend, as a direct result of the race.

Let's hope they see the light!

They couldn't keep the WTS series in CT.

Crap, really - was there a reason given for that?

Don't think it got anything but full support from the city. but obviously the calendar does change, and being an olympic year could just be other bigger factors in play.

Yeah I'm sure we could think of a few substitute words for "reveller".

Pigs would be a good start. I've seen the **** these people leave behind them.

Durban is rof! This from the news:

"Durban - A 57-year old man who shot two men dead in a dispute over a parking bay at a Durban block of flats only did so after he had been assaulted and threatened with being shot himself, the Durban Magistrate’s court was told on Tuesday."

Don't know officially. I had been told that there was a seven year contract.

The TV footage was very impressive, really showcasing CT.

I think having to shorten the swim for the Pros and cancel for the AGs due to the cold probably played a role.

What really grates me is that there will be dustbins 5m from where they are "revelling", but its fine to just drop their trash and smash beer bottles all over the show!!!  FFS.

Oh well... at least it creates jobs for municipal workers to have go clear up after these pigs.

Calm shall return, humble pie will be served quietly in private.

No, it won't. She'll be patted on the back and promoted to some (more) cushy job where she can continue to do f-all and steal to her hearts content. Typical anc behaviour, wouldn't expect anything less...

The few who feel they are entitled to make life difficult for Race Organisers and the first ones to throw the "Race" card in a fight !!

its sad what is lovely country has amounted to and that's only because the Head of the Country allows corruption to be seen as a normal occurrence !

My son and I ride every Saturday on the promenade, and he always questions why so much filth is left behind.

The cleaners do a sterling job, though - it's all cleaned up by 10am or so - they should not have to clean the cr@p up every weekend, that's for sure.
