Mudsimus Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 That would be great. At the moment trail and error in finding the perfect road shoe is making me bankrupt. Im with you on this one...why is it that a road shoe is more difficult to get right than a trail shoe??? Imagine 30 days to test in SA..all the used shoes could get sold at reduced prices to all those less fortunate but excellent runners that are running in hand down 1000km shoes. I can run in a pair of Salomon trail shoes out of the box with no issues. They just fit my feet like gloves. Pitt that their road shoes are terrible. In road shoes I couldn't find something remotely close in comfort and suppport. In road shoes I tried Salomon, NB 980 and 1080, Nike Pegasus and Vomero. Of all of them the I found the Pegasus the best, really comfortable shoe. Not sure how they will hold up in Comades though.
dave303e Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Yep Alan Robb ran in the Tigers.. I suppose its what you are used to.. I like running in a Light responsive shoe.. So I will race a Marathon in the Brooks T7s or Hyperian's that sit at 178-185g So stepping up to the 230g Boston's on my long stuff feels well supportive for me.. But it is all relative to time on the feet.. Ill race a marathon in 2h45, there is no chance I could run 4hrs in a T7.. I honesty feel I would be 20-30secs per km slower over Comrades (30mins) if I ran in something like a 350g Nimbus.. But then I do weigh around 65kgs Those were good shoes hey, I really enjoyed mine, so light
Gringo Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event?
Lexx Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event?I am using Comrades as a Runcation. Im staying in the Spinnaker Apartment building at the waterfront. Pretty awesome place.
Chris_ Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event? We're blowing cash again - Oyster box Most of all hoping I'll be in such a state the day after the race I'll be able to get even a fraction of that breakfast down Hacc 1
Hacc Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event? Our club has been staying in Amanzimtoti for at least 20 years. Horrible accommodation but very cheap. When you are looking for accommodation these are things to take note of: 1. I like self-catering. You get up at 3 in the morning to eat and after the race, I only feel hungry late at night.2. Don't book accommodation at a place with only stairs.... Learned this the hard way after my first Comrades.3. Don't book accommodation in central Pietermaritzburg for the down run. Also learned this the hard way, it is very noisy and you don't get much sleep. Lexx 1
Chris_ Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 I was in dischem on the weekend and was looking at the GU stuff. They have a summit tea flavour (not sure what it'll taste like but I've been looking for something less sweet) but its R600 a bottle!!! Are they even serious?! 800g for 600 bucks..
Mudsimus Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) I found a place in PMB close to the start. Stayed there for work a month back and decided to book for Comrades. Edited October 26, 2017 by Mudsimus
Jackes Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 2. Don't book accommodation at a place with only stairs.... Learned this the hard way after my first Comrades. We have fantastic accommodation in Umhlanga, seafront. Unfortunately I did not think about that flight of stairs for one minute, until we arrived there after the race... Luckily my son is big enough so I send him up and down the stairs the next morning with all the luggage and I only had to attempt one down. I guess next year with the down-run I'm going to cry, but we'll stick to the spot, really enjoyed it. Hacc 1

Are they even serious?! 800g for 600 bucks.. i do not use GU products, but generally when i try out new supplements i go for the citrus flavour as i find in a lot of cases that its the more subtle flavour in the range and not that sweet.
Andrew Steer Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event?Close to Maritzburg as you can the night before... and then Durban/Umhlanga the rest of the time
Barry Stuart Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event? At my folks' place. That way I can guilt trip them into seconding me again. ScottCM 1

Wonder which leaves they are using in that tea... or maybe that's what they were inhaling when making the price.

Its our first Comrades so in planning mode Just need to find accommodation for our two families (4 adults/2 kids) so self catering would be ideal..... Hacc 1

Only negative when traveling to Pmb for the downrun is you will have to get up crazy early. I don't know how early yet, but judging by the traffic buggerup during the run towards Pmb, as well as the more than 2 hours from Pmb to Umhlanga afterwards, I guess it is going to be pretty darn early!
Stretch Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Im also needing new road shoes, my Nimbus have almost done 1000km and are only now feeling comfy but my big toes are popping out the top.Life hack for those that suffer, like me, with type popping out the top. Get a small section of that thick duct tape and paste it inside around where the big toe wears the shoe. You have to replace it about every 2 weeks but it extends the practical life of your shoe significantly candz1 and SeaBee 2
