Regarding the training programs.   I had a shock looking forward to what happens up until two oceans time, regarding miles, but I see all of them basicly works like that.   OMTOM is just part of your training for comrades and the miles stack up like crazy all the way.

We have a 32km the Saturday and a 10km the Sunday before OMTOM.

Our club decided to have their long run (50km) the weekend before OMTOM   I told them it is a stupid idea and club members won't support it. You cannot do 3 ultras (Club long run, OMTOM and Loskop) over three weekends...

I wouldn't exceed 21km the weekend before OMTOM. (I would probably do it the Saturday to rest the Sunday)

We were lucky enough to be a part of the inaugural Torpedo Swim Run over the weekend.

3.6km of sea swimming and 13.5km of running/rock hopping spread out over 11 or so legs. You swim in your rinning shoes and run in your wetsuit.... As someone who adventures, rides bikes, tri's, MTB's paddles etc, this really was the most fun I have had at an organised race in absolute ages.

Check it out. I am absolutely hooked on the concept and there are talks of doing a 50km one at some point.

Only issue I have now is the chafe under my arms and on my nips is going to make Red Hill an agony fest!

I think I'm also going to override that 32 with a 21 the weekend before omtom.   The two weeks after omtom is a bit more relaxed, but still.

That's the Saturday, the Sunday is a 1H30 at base pase, I will still do that as well.

Luckily the legs are broken up into very manageable chunks. Longest run was 4.5km, so I chose to wear a pair of old new balance minimalist shoes I haven't run in for a year or so.

Some guys were wearing fishing booties!

I think the longer 50km version would require a bit more thought on shoes, but the short, punchy 20km or less just requires a good attitude and the least amount of fuss possible.

Serious fun though...

I see Johnson's Crane sent out an email saying entries were heading towards being full... would suggest pre-entering for those considering it. It's a nice run and you don't want to risk the morning entry. Demand for entries certainly seems higher this year - Two Oceans Ultra as an example sold out quickly... Comrades again too. Pick n Pay is another I would suggest ticking off too while you're at it.

Have you seen the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun world series? Looks very tough.

"The teams swim between the 26 islands and run over them. The total distance is 75 kilometres of which 10 km are open-water swimming and 65 km are trail-running."

I have checked this out.

The Swedes are crazy about this sport and it is growing quite quickly.

Being a 'plodder' I would probably prefer the longer races, but that being said, carrying anything is difficult, even a small amount of vaseline!

Very excited that it has hit our shores and hopefully guys are keen to put their hands up and give it a go.

The Torpedo guys did a fantastic job as a 'taster' which should encourage a few more people to organise similar events. The Walker bay extreme version including cliff jumping looks a treat as well!

Reckon that's probably it. My runs all get posted as private for some reason... so if I don't edit and unlock they don't go public.

And here I thought you were not training enough....

It's the strava way of doing secret training ????
