GemmerKat Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) Also entered this week. Will be my first one. I don't think I totally realise what I have let my self into but are up for this challenge. Is there any suggestion for a proper training program ?I see there is one on the comrades site for beginners. The goal is only to finish and since I last ran 3 months ago I will require something for a beginner to build a base. Edited September 9, 2017 by GemmerK@t Messier87, Khronis and Hacc 3
Jaws677 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Programs on the Comrades website are brilliant, all you need if you want to finish

Jackes Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Programs on the Comrades website are brilliant, all you need if you want to finish Agreed. We used a slightly modified version of coach Norrie's. Parry's is a bit heavy KMs loaded for me for the first year guy, but that is just our opinion. Good luck to all the first timers, you're going to enjoy this very tough, but very rewarding ride! I mean run....

If you're doing any cycling and other training it can add up to quite a lot. Saying that I really battled , so they clearly know what they're talking about, probably a good place to start.
Chris_ Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 How was everyones Adrienne Hersch this weekend? Got quite steamy early on, and those hills just crushed my spirit with ease. Still managed a sub 2 which I was very happy with but yoh I had to work for it. Andrew Steer 1
dave303e Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 So is anyone else running Karkloof 100? had a good fitness tester this last weekend but managed to bash knee and hand up a bit so gonna be an interesting 2 weeks tapering and recovery... Lexx 1
Andrew Steer Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 How was everyones Adrienne Hersch this weekend? Got quite steamy early on, and those hills just crushed my spirit with ease. Still managed a sub 2 which I was very happy with but yoh I had to work for it.Bloody tough route... I took a sensible bail after 10km's as my little core muscle injury was screaming at me on the climbs, and boy there were a lot of them. Was also carrying a few aching muscles from Crater Cruise, the bike definitely focuses on some different areas - my quads are a bit buggered today. Well done on your sub2, on that route it's very decent! Chris_ 1

I was watching the 21km coming in and it was really not a big field that finished under a sub 2. I ended up doing the 10km with a friend of mine. I was not ready for the 21km and nausea got the better of me even on the 10km. It was a very tough route, most of my club members were swearing after finishing. Chris_ and Andrew Steer 2

We both decided this would be a LSD and our last run prior to CPT Marathon this weekend. Pace was a bit slow at the start due to the numbers but picked it up around the 8km distance and had a comfortable relaxed run, finished in 2:05 Happy to finish with no major issue and only mild tightness from my ITB... this week will be cross training and rest... looking forward to CPT Chris_, ScottCM, Andrew Steer and 2 others 5
ScottCM Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 Congrats on the sub 2!! That is excellent for the route and the super hot weather. Hacc Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Your Nausea issues back Hacc?Unfortunately still struggling with it. Going back to the doctor on Thursday as the medicine that seemed to be working is not a permanent solution. It is not as bad when I cycle, but running is a different story. It seems to be worse when I work hard (like running uphill).I am wondering now if it is stress (ulcer) related. Feeling pretty "gatvol" about this now.

If former, perhaps, time for the latter?
Hacc Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I hope all the 2018 Comrades Novices are on theHub running Strava group. Can we rename the group on Strava? It still says "BikeHUB Comrades Marathon 2016"
Hacc Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 GP or specialist? If former, perhaps, time for the latter?GP on Thursday, but I am sure the next step is a specialist. Fat Boab 1
Fat Boab Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 GP on Thursday, but I am sure the next step is a specialist. Good luck. But if you're gatvol, then may I suggest proctology?
