candz1 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I second SeaBee..also started at 47 and ran every second day and on trails. Avoid the tar and just take it easy. 30 mins is the least you can do to lose kgs..and dont eat 30 mins worth of running. Quickest way to get strong on a bike and lose kgs. Lexx, coppi and IH8MUD 3
Stretch Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) I did the PnP marathon yesterday. First moan: . I wish I didn’t have to running with Vitality colors at Comrades this year. You don't have too run with any club colours for comrades.... You could also bite the bullet and join sunninghill. One of our club members who moved down to KZN was a member and he raved about then. I also ran in a comrades bus led by thys (I think?) Who was is a pretty awesome dude. Great club...I would pay some school fees. Edited February 12, 2018 by Stretch Lexx 1
Stretch Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I did the Hillcrest half marathon yesterday on Stretch's recommendation. I am so glad I did it. Stunning route and perfect weather conditions (drizzle and cool) but I would imagine that even if not drizzling it would be so nicely shaded with those beautiful avenues of trees. My sub 2 kinda fell apart about 3km to go, Ive battled with hip bursitis for almost a year now and it kicked in! But im so glad I did that run, thank you Stretchy, will definately make sure I do it again, finished in 2:07..so maybe next year. PMB21 coming up in 2 weeks so need to get htis hip sorted!Awesome candz
shaper Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I will third SeaBea, started running at 49, now 52, played soccer up until my mid 30's then did very little until started cycling mid 40's (as was fat and needed to loose the belly) and then running and triathlons at 49. Takes time, body aches and suffers and then the running fitness comes. Am happy to do 21km runs on weekends or more now without even thinking about it, and still cycling long distances the day before. Did the PnP 21km yesterday, nice weather conditions and run. Did not experience the congestion as others have stated (no more than usual at most of the bigger events) and self seeded in the sub 2hr. Finished is 1:48hrs coppi, Khronis, tjommies3 and 2 others 5

Khronis Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Did the PnP Half yesterday and managed to get my first sub 2 for a half , got a 01h58 (mat to mat) . The start was crazy hectic as usual not to mention the traffic even though i got there just before 5. The weather conditions were perfect , cool and overcast but was starting to clear up as i finished . I'm sure a lot of those that did the marathon must have suffered on the second lap. Barry Stuart Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I took me 5km into the race before I was able to run a straight line, the first 5km was dodging walkers. The start etiquette in SA is really bad. I always try and do the maths about where I'll finish in the crowd and slot in there (difficult because whenever I arrive at a race I feel like everyone there looks faster than me). Yet inevitably within the first 2km you're still overtaking people, some that have broken into a walk. I'm not sure why people do it, especially at a mat to mat event. Andrew Steer 1

But everywhere else it states that Comrades qualifying is strictly gun to mat timing?
Hacc Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Isn't the average age at Comrades between 43 to 45? Lexx 1
CobusV Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Isn't the average age at Comrades between 43 to 45?That is good news! I have to wait another 4 years minimum then before considering the big C. Hacc 1
coppi Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Isn't the average age at Comrades between 43 to 45?Ye but those runners have generally being doing it from a younger age..........

But everywhere else it states that Comrades qualifying is strictly gun to mat timing? It's been revised for this year. As far as I understand mat to mat can be used.
