Have some here in a cupboard, my wife wears her heel corner down in 400 km or less but she does not like me building it up again...

Stick duct tape induce the shoe where your toe wears through it. The duct tape normally lasts about ten runs. Bit of a schlep.. But it extends the life significantly. My toes also wear through and this has made a huge difference

Its not my toes, the upper is fine. Its on the soles, right on the tip. The shoe shop said it’s because of an aggressive toe off. Apparently I drive from my toes. But I’ll try sole saver, its very small spots that wears off, maybe the size of a 10c.

How do the Ravennas compare to the Ghost??  Have you ever tried the Ghost?  Im caught trying to decide...dont think I want another pair of Nimbus.

My wife has both.   Started off in Ravenna after a assessment at SBR sport, she pronates.   Ravenna is a very light stability, apparently unique in it's class.  She liked them as well.   It did start to also give her blisters later on, but this might be due to her wearing the shoes off to the inside with her pronation.

She tried a neutral pair as an experiment now and says the ghost 10's is the best fit of everything she ever had.  Did a marathon in them on Saturday with 100km's on them and it is the first blister free long run in her history.   She love them!     Time will tell is they perhaps also wear off to the inside and start with blisters, but as far as the shoe goes, she loves it!

I for one could not run in Ghosts. Too narrow - but only from 30k+ runs did I find that. Then of all nails my second last toe nail would go black. Plus the heel felt weird to me - and led to Achilles issues. Subconsciously it bother me so much in the end that I never put my heel down. So was introduced to low drop shoes and never looked back!

Edit: That does not say that there is not thousands of happy Ghost customers - there are! They just did not work for me.

I also to run my big toe out at the top though... I simply carry on using it, since it's IMO only cosmetics damage. Weirdly not on all shoes, but most do have the holes to show for that treatment.

And ja, mileage is very style dependent and I also agree with the niggle theory. If you suddenly have niggles after every run in a specific set of shoes (I rotate a good couple at the same time) you know it's time to have an emotional moment, say your goodbyes and discard them. Because next time you'll just have the same niggles. And that's where the bills start if you continue for too long - and suddenly the price of a new pair (esp yellow ticket or shoe booster enhanced price) of shoes is not that much.

When I bought my last pair of NB at the Sweatshop the salesman told me they can replace the heals if I run them down

This is the weird thing, my wife has wide feet.   The pairs  that she eventually did Omtom and Comrades in last year was NB 1260, 2E - wide fit and even they gave her hectic blisters and black toenails.

She went up another have size with the ghosts for exactly the width reason and they were perfect this weekend.   Shoes are such a personal (trail and error) thing

I agree, I have always run in Nikes, except when Reebok was sponsoring comrades and you got that free reebok jacket if you cross the finish line wearing a pair of their shoes...

I did the Hillcrest half marathon yesterday on Stretch's recommendation. I am so glad I did it. Stunning route and perfect weather conditions (drizzle and cool) but I would imagine that even if not drizzling it would be so nicely shaded with those beautiful avenues of trees. My sub 2 kinda fell apart about 3km to go, Ive battled with hip bursitis for almost a year now and it kicked in! But im so glad I did that run, thank you Stretchy, will definately make sure I do it again, finished in 2:07..so maybe next year. PMB21 coming up in 2 weeks so need to get htis hip sorted!

If you've battled with hip bursitis for almost a year how are you gonna get it sorted in the next 2 weeks if I may ask?

age old question most likely....BUT

How long do you keep you guys keep your shoes? My Brooks Revenna is now 1200km. The sole wear pattern is EXCELLENT and only minor scuffs on the upper, no collpsed support at all. Just doesn't feel right to replace yet. Not having show related niggles either.

Is 1200km to much?

One of the chaps I know completed 9 Comrades Marathons in the same pair of running shoes with plenty of other running in the same pair.

So much of today is just increasing sales...or I was never fortunate to grow up in an era of decent quality products.

LOL....Are you saying my feet unbeknown to me are secretly working for Brooks / Nike / Asics et al...?

When i started running 5km and 8km TT way back in the 80's to keep fit, i used to run in tennis tekkies or north star tekkies, hell i even ran xc at school once in my black school shoes because i forgot my tennis tekkies at home...

Got sent this today.  Must have been someone doing the marathon as did not hear of anything at the finish of the 21km.
