What is your planned time for Vaal marathon?

It's one of my favourite races, but I'm just not ready for it... ran 4:15 last year, will probably aim around 4:30 this year, a lot will depend on how my legs hold out the second half. Will run a conservative 2:10 first half and see how it goes from there...

Entered Karkloof 50 for me and the Mrs today!

Haha, I sneakily signed Jess up for the 50 miler last night. Wasn't sure what her response would be but I sent her a bunch of photos from last year's event and she's thrilled.

Are you and your wife planning to hang together throughout the event? I'm going to be seconding for Jess so if you end up needing some nutrition and supplies backup at the checkpoints, just let me know.

So what are the running plans for the weekend?

I am running Deloittes 21km on Sunday. Hoping not to feel nauseous and just enjoy the race.

Good luck to all running PMB this weekend and the Congo Marathon. Anyone doing the Deloittes or Township Marathon?

Just 5km left for the weekend. I will run from our house to the Bronberrik Parkrun, where I will meet up with my wife and children. While she then runs the parkrun, I will walk the first lap (~2km) with the children, listening to them complain and moan the whole way.

Our babysitters are still out of town, so we did our long run this morning. About 23km.

I have an easy weekend planned , 8km on Saturday and 12km on Sunday. Tapering for Vaal next weekend which will be my first marathon and hopefully my qualifier. Going for a sub 4h20 so I can get a F batch for comrades.

Thats a great offer, thank you!

We ran the Mapungubwe Wildrun event this time last year together, and I think it was a bit frustrating for both of us so we'll most likely run our own speeds.

She turns 30 in Sep so we've been looking for something awesome to do. We were first tempted by that Marathon des Sables Half in Canary Islands, but its out of our talent range right now and prob a bit pricey.

So we decided to explore local first, and we know Mr Booth puts on a mean event.

Wife and I signed up for the Township 42.

She'll be doing as much as she can more as a training run. Our running training has been nowhere lately, and I'm still waiting on my knee to come right. So I'll hobble around and give her a high 5 along the route...

Karkloof 50 is actually a really doable first loong trail run, friends that ran the 50 all really enjoyed it. I will be be back for the 100 later in the year, but my 2c is- if you gonna fight through 50 miles, may as well just upgrade to 100 miles and earn yourself a belt buckle...

My husband is trying to convince me to enter the 50miler  and run with him..but I have learnt that he and I running together...not a good idea.  We have 2 very different aims and objectives...I like to sight see, run and chat..he likes to do a PB in any, all and every possible area...so the thought of running with him, is just not appealing and then running it alone, nah....dont think so...

Convince him to enter the 100 miler, then offer to pace him for the 2nd 50 miles.

He can race the first 50 miles hard and then you get to run with him once he is buggered and you will be easily as strong as him and then you as a pacer don't pay entry.

Thats good to hear they enjoyed it.

Baby steps first though.. Lets get the 50 ticked off, and I'll definitely be doing a 100 miler at some point in the future. Big time bucket list
