All this talk of a sub 2 marathon no being possible (in the next 30 years, or ever, or without chemicals)....

4 minutes in the mile was also seen as a barrier, but then it got smashed by Roger Bannister on a windy day on cinders.... And now more than 1400 athletes surpassed that!

The sub 10 second 100m was also a pipe dream. Now 136 athletes have gone under 10 seconds

These man-made numbers are not barriers, but mere targets. The right combination of aptitude, attitude and motivation WILL break current 'barriers'

I cannot wait!

Anyone else notice the lack of fanfare on the news this morning? Not even a mention on the sports news.

Some of the people presenting sports are not exactly fanatics - but merely someone that wants to work in the industry.

MixFM mentioned it, but then again Steve Smith is a bit more knowledgeable than other presenters.

Hows prep going for the Cape Town marathon runners here? I know its a biggie.

Just came from the physio... so not as planned! Strained my foot a bit a couple of weeks ago and it's never gotten better. Now it's in a PF type state, but more towards the inside of the foot than the underside. (If that makes sense. Basically the big toe's bridge support tendon.)

No land speed records were in any danger from me anyways, but now I'm just hoping to hit my goal. Expecting it to be a whole lot less fun than anticipated earlier.

I’m decided (been forced) to not run it. Still recovering from what might be osteitis pubis although the X-rays are clear. Rather seems to indicate lateral pelvic tilt. Still haven’t run since Comrades.

What is the treatment plan? ice packs and rolling with cricket/golf balls?

Because it's so close to CTM, just gentle stretching and rubbing/rolling. Also stretch the calve - slightly. Not pushing any of the stretches, just activating the area and stimulating the blood flow.

I've been strapped to support the bridge area, but it is quite irritating.

Edit: I have one of those b4play balls for rolling - love them!

A couple of calf strains in the last 3 weeks, before IM70.3WC and last week (on other calf), any distance running has been minimal !!  Managed a comfy 21km at Gerald Fox on Sunday even though one calf was still tight... today it is feeling rather good, surprisingly.

So has been a forced taper (on the running) for CTM.... but am sure will be a fun run on the day if the legs hold out.  :)

The last time the record was broken by this bigger margin was 54 years ago. Sunday saw near perfect conditions with the best Marathon runner of all time focussing on that target. That was 77 odd secs he took off it... Someone needs to take that and more to achieve sub 2.

Sub 2 is the equivalent of a sub 9sec hundred

Never was said the next time the record is broken it will be at sub 2 hrs, but I see a sub 2 marathon in the foreseeable future. Maybe still in my natural life time

[emoji16] not saying so either.... Bit I still don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon... It's gonna take a runner better than kipchoge. I hope I'm wrong

CTM: Legs still not feeling springy after winter miles (hope I put enough miles in), but the pace was ok during today's reduced hill run. Ive got a few tapering sessions left, hope everything comes together.

Fantastic weather on the cards :)
