Ok so I will confess.

I am using vibrams onces a week when I run on the school soccer field.

Reason for the vibrams.

Back in the day when I was still running in Asics I contantly struggled with shin splits from the heel striking.

I was forced to change my running style or quit running.

The vibrams forces me onto the front part of my foot which got rid of the shin splints as the impact is different .

Using the vibrams reminds me of staying on my toes.

But this is me.

What do you think of the New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro V4, for trail, Barry?

I've got a pair of Adidas Terrex, but thinking of upgrading to the New Balance when the time comes.

I don't know that model, but myself and a few of my friends are a bunch of just plain average Joe's that are very happy with the New Balance Summit KOM (previously 910's)

Nothing wrong with that I would say. Prob the best surface to do barefoot running

Edit. Don't discount the importance of running on grass to place less stress on your joints

That's the site that helped me choose my road running shoes, really really good website , and I can see myself purchasing a pair of the next line of Pegasus.

I see the Hierro V4 also has quite a good score on runrepeat, but was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with New Balance trail shoes.

I've only had mine for a few week..60km or so. I'm very happy with them on the trails so far, very comfortable.

Yesterday we did some interval training on a gravel road, and today I'm sitting with a stiff knee and my heels are sore.. But that might also just be due to the fact that I'm new to running and my fitness isn't what it should be!!

I love this color. I need new trail shoes. N+1 always.

Sportsmans do not seem to stock Altra :(

wha... but do they finish?

I ran 5 and 10km distances barefoot a few years back in PE. It was fun, but sore and lots of sidestepping debris. I didn't know about Vibram or Merrel's equivalent back then, could less so even afford them. I like the appeal of near barefoot running but with protection from debris, even if I look like "that guy". Its just a huge price to pay in taking a chance

Make your own huarches. With visits to the

haberdashery, rubber manufacturer and plumbing shop you can do it.

On the topic of trail shoes, has anybody here tried Peregrines?

Me... my go-to trail shoe at this stage. Have two different versions (5 and 8) of them and feet happy with both. I picked up my first issues in them EVER this weekend, but in hindsight, own stupidity by not lacing the newer pair correctly.

Just went to check quickly, my 5's are at 920 k's and still going. Reaching end of life, but there's no tears, no soles/stitching loosening, thread still good, you name it. But I do know of a colleague who had his 5's tear (upper) quite early - at that flex point just behind the toes.

As somebody else said, as long as the drop suits you, the shoe width suits you, etc, who cares what the logo says.

Not myself, but two friends swear by them.   I cannot make up my mind if it will be them or if it will be the trusted NB the next time.   It is a nice time to buy Peregrines now, with the nice looking ones that's out now.

What I have picked up on my Saucony Triumph was that the materials did break at the back of my ankle and then on top of my big toe there seems to be close to giving in as well.  But this is very critical, the rest still looks great and the soles lasted longer than I originally thought it would.   They are on 1,000 now and still looking good for a lot.  It is just compared to my Brooks Ghost that has 1,000 and 1,500 on them and they don't have any material tears or breakages.   But as I said, very critical, but not sure how tough their materials is compared to Brooks for one.

You're getting great distances on those shoes. I tend to burn through mine at about 730km and then they become my short run shoes whilst I wear in a new pair for my longer runs. Mine is more an issue of burning through that blown-rubber tread. It's super soft and grippy but also, I suspect, a form of engineered redundancy since the rest of the shoe still looks new.

Me, I run in Mizuno.  Moved from Asics Nimbus to Brooks Ghost and now Mizuno Wave Rider.  Out of the 3, best shoe for me.  Want to find a trail pair, currently using Hoka Speed goat on the trails but not that happy with them.
