Hey

Just wondering how many of you unfortunate enough to have entered the Juma, and who selected to be refunded have received your refund ? Still waiting for mine, and will definately not be entering again.

Nope still waiting for my refunds.

Personally I do not see nor do I understand your frustration at this stage. On the 18th of September they stated that the refunds can take up to 2 weeks to process. Surely loading over 1000 EFT's are a time consuming process. We are still 2 days away from the 2 weeks which also included a public holiday last Thursday.

If my schedule permits it I WILL be entering next year again!

Lets see if they stick to their word.  I have my doubts.  I reckon that they offered the refund in the hope people would roll over to next year, and are battling to pony up the cash after all the additional expenses for the attempted fix-up.  Still got 2 days though.

I sure as hell will not enter this thing again. When compared to the awesome race calendar events we have every weekend, this race is just crap.  A tour of Joburg's filth and decay, peppered with gratuitous and nonsensical injury opportunities.  For R400. Fool me once, but no more!

After riding under Tana and Linden road this last weekend, as well as the other upgrades to the spruit, I think I will enter next year even if I don't ride it (i.e. donate R400 to the cause).

They have done an awesome job to make our weekly free riding spot better.

I think they shouldnt have offered a refund but an entry into next year's race...

PS how many of the okes feeling done in have been riding the spruit since it was cancelled? Anyone noticed the maintenance they did on little bridges and crossings?

If this unfortunate turn of events means more people with your attitude aren't riding next year...

Hope I win one of the 5 GoPro's

Absolutely awesome riding at the moment, and much safer too - specifically because of that bridge under  Linden. WOW!

And that roadworks at the bridge at Emmarentia Dam also helps to make the Spruit a traffic-free very enjoyable ride ... right in the middle of the big city.

Had a lekker ride on Sunday afternoon... people can say what they want about the Spruit, but it's a seriously lekker little strip right through the heart of the city... And convenience, I'm in Alberts farm bleeding up the slate climb within a minute

Super work on the upgrades....I'm sure there will be a solution of sorts, give it time.

Do you guys know which trails benefit from the influx of cash from Juma?

Maybe some of the "moangatte" live on de udder side of the Jukskei and would like to see their trails also benefit?

Then they should arrange an event that traverses that area...

...i don't even know where to start.  what better way to clean up "joburg's filth" than to make a bike race through it.  trails are built, bridges appear, safe road crossings (in storm water culverts) are made accessible.  People become aware of alternative riding routes for weekends which boosts safety in numbers etc. The spruit fairies are doing great work (by engaging with the homeless locals living on the trails) to maintain large sections of the spruit which is the reason why it is a lot cleaner, safer and more fun to ride than it was 5 years ago.  I prefer a clean and safe spruit on my doorstep than to spend my money on trails that are 50km and an hour's drive away on some dude's private farm.

I don't live in Jozi anymore, but each time I go there I take my bike along for the nice jumps and drops that appeared over the last two years.  In a different way the "filth of joburg" makes for better riding than a lot of the trails that I can do up here on the pristine Limpopo river bank where I live now.

PS, there aren't a lot of races on the calendar that are technically challenging and make you go "Whooohhh" with a massive smile on your face every now and then, so your comment about it just being a crap race and "peppered with nonsensical injury opportunities" is just unfair.  If you can ride a bike properly, you can do Juma safely, if you can't, then its time for those training wheels.

disclaimer:  there have been some very unfortunate incidents in the slippery culvert sections last year where hubbers amongst others had taken falls with very bad consequences and I am not trying to be unsensitive here...  it is just that Juma isn't that dangerous when riding within your limits and I'm sure they would have done something about those sections for 2015.

Only the spruit...see they need to build / widen / enhance / add / cleanup parts of the spruit to handle the numbers. This benefit will stay put once the event takes place...which is what we are riding at the moment.

All this cost money to do...which is why the moangatte are being called as such.
