Great ride in 2D. The group split on Endinburgh (spelling) and came together again at Simonstown. The guys rode brilliantly to bring the groups back. But on Smitswinkel a pile-up ended the 1 group policy... A huge number if us got caught in the crash and formed small working groups up to the end.

To top it all off I started cramping at Misty Cliffs, and the last 10km felt like 1 long cramp. Bit my teeth and averaged 36km/h over the last 10km and finished literally in tears. Man that hurt. Time is around 3:42.

Ouch, I must have broke away out that group at the right time. Blitzed up Wynberg hill, also gave a bit of a pull up smits. Managed to catch some 2b and 2c riders. Then I met up with a gentleman, Greg I think in bright pink jersey and we worked well together. Me leading up hills and him helping me on flats. Really need to work on my intervals and do less climbing. Was riding an old Giant OCR 5. And sorry to the bloke I shouted at by houtbay circle. Got boxed and wasn't expecting him to pull off to the left so trip to squeeze through and had to slam breaks. Also narrowly missed a water bottle. Bunny hopped it.

All in all great ride Finished 3h18. Very happy.

2A was a bit hectic up front with a cervelo team doing a lot of damage to the main field. We caught 1G - 1J & if not more along the route. Anyone know who they are? I picked up that it was a mix of UK and SA guys. I managed a 03:07

Also part of 2A. Did a 3:08. I passed some of them on Suikerbossie.

What a blast! Great weather & strong group resulted in a Sub 3 pb

Lap 2 I was reminded of the spirit and characters that ride just to survive the distance. Had a few interesting chats. Really fun.

Easiest day of racing this week, and savage even came away with the 1A win :)

Was it "Klyde" who started in my group? He also did ToGH.

That guy puts in one hellova pull time after time and just when you think his off to go puff out his last breath he comes back with a strungout following on his wheel.

All yster I must say.

Thank, aVenge & others for the cool and positive comments.

So relieved to have no physical harm. :P

Phew!

Roll On In Peace, awesome hoops.

The best I've owned.

Rim damaged and spoke broken.

And, again, what a special festival celebrating cycling in South Africa.

May lots of the moola go to awesome causes and initiatives.

Ouch man. Looks like a write off that.

So many close calls today.

The whole team of DJR had a fantastic day out on the bike. Weather, wind, temperature, everything was as close to ideal as it could have been. Everyone came in unscathed and within their planned times with some personal bests too. Another x10 medal was collected in the process.

My 2 youngsters rode it without my help or presence this year. From the start they linked up with team Beattbox and by colluding with the junior Beattbox, and some sneaky tricks, managed to drop Beattbox senior at the end of Ladies Mile. He thought they were behind him, meanwhile they were racing ahead. Eventually he stopped at Smitswinkels, when he couldn't wait any more, and tracked them on his phone.......only to see them already starting up Chappies! (The same trick they used on me last year the little skelms.) The younger D dropped the older going up Chappies and he was gone! (Priceless stuff)I should have known, because two years ago he chased a marshal on a scooter up Chappies. Oh, to have a power to weight ratio like that again, just for 1 Argus! My own seeding was perfect, and I managed to stay with my group from start to finish without having to work too hard, which helped. D senior rode a steady and solid ride despite his 78 years. He said Noordhoek and Chappies was so beautiful that he felt like stopping to take pictures, but didn't want to make it too easy for the other oldies, so he kept going! Spirit!

I recon it was that 1 year out of 10 where everything just come together (except that I wasn't at my fittest).

Great day out, saw something new this year, bike parked in the sun in the bike park blew its's tubby, went off like a cannon shot, and broke the carbon rim

Does anyone know the condition of the guy who got run over by the sweeper van at Camps bay around 14:30ish. It happened right in front of me, and it was k@k to witness. The guy got out and had a badly grazed leg. I did not hang around as there were medics right there to help.

The sweep  van pushed past a group of us right were the roadworks are and the bunch got pushed together, and the poor guy ended up under the trailer with the wheel inches from him.

Apologies If this is a repost.

I'm so gutted right now. My seeding index is 0.05 probably the closest a middle aged weekend warrior like me will ever get to starting elite in Argus. Think maybe if I'd tried at expo today instead of Thurs it might have happened

Be glad you didn't race Elite. What a dog show. 5 crashes and half the bunch I swear had no bunch skills.

Hard luck Dale, but glad to here u came out of that mayhem relatively unscathed???? A tough race from 2a for me. After being dropped by my group on whineberg hill and on track for above a 3:30 by the time i reached jubilee square????, some deep digging needed to be done. Fortunately found some courage and legs to go and sit with some hectic pace setters passing by. A special thanks to Graeme for bringing me home at such a pace????Ended up doing a pb 3:14 odd and absolutely ecstatic with that time????

Heard there was a huge crash by the elites at hospital bend.

Spoke101 are you and your bike oakay???

Bad luck Dale.

Nope unfortunately, I was boxed and had no where to go. Went down hard and then had someone put there front wheel in my back.

Managed to get going again and joined 1A (very slow negative racing) but couldn't breath deeply or stand so limped to the finish.

Turns out I got 1 or 2 broken ribs a torn groin muscle and some bruised kidneys.

They definitely need to stop Vets raceing elite unless they in a pro team and Juniors need there own bunch aswell. 200+ is just way to big for these roads when everyone thinks they can win and have no bunch skills.

Interesting day out today. Bummed to say the least. Started in 2B and was like an F1 start which split up Edinburgh only to regroup there after. Stayed as a huge group coming up to Simonstown where some 2C riders caught us and we cought some of 2A. Fast and furious with a group too large for the narrowing road. Handles clashed some got hooked and 4 of us went down at speed. Race over, frame broken in 2 places, RD bent and spent the rest of the day in hospital confirming broken collar bone ... hoping for a quick recovery!

Feeling absolutely dejected. Trained so hard for a freaking year to get me to beat 3:30 for the first time and then picked up a stomach bug the week of the argus. I thought I felt good yesterday and this morning but clearly I was deceiving myself. Legs started twitching just before smits and then entire quads cramped at soetwater. I then had to take it easier for the rest of the race. Clearly lost too much fluids these past couple of days and never replaced those electrolytes.

Absolutely gutted.
