Not to rain on anyones parade.....but have you been out on the route lately...specifically past fairview. You have 7km of BAD roadworks (1 lane only with barriers/posts/holes....all kinds of stuff)

Was talking to one of my riding buddies about it while out that way 2 weeks back.

So.....got him to mail ppa about it.

They're looking into alternatives (going to ride through that section tomorrow)....and might do a detour ....detour might be 6km longer

Yeah we did the route 2 weeks back as well and it got me thinking as well what the PPA would do on that road as at some places the road is quite narrow.

Lets see what they come up with.

There we go:

ROUTE AMENDMENT: Due to the road works on the Suid-Agter Paarl road, the route has been changed to take cyclists down to the Klapmuts 4-way top and from there onto the R44.  This means that the total distance for the Craft PPA One Tonner is 170 km.  Please make sure that you carry enough water with you at all times.

Hi mense

Im in a rut. So I missed the entry date but I found a substitution. Problem now is that PPA does not want to do the sub. Entries and subs closed on the same day at the same time.

This does not make any sense!! No one gets he opportunity to make a substitution.

Awaiting a response on my email, face book post and inbox message via facebook..NOG NIKS

"I have missed the entries on friday for the 1 tonner. I have found someone who is not going to be riding on sunday due to other commitments.

I would like to do a substitution but after checking the website and calling your office this morning I was informed that the substitutions have also closed on the same day as the entries have closed.

I find this very strange as this does not give anyone the chance to do a substitution. Could you please advise me to a way forward.

Thank you"

I dont want to do the whole rouge rider thing and I difficult is it to change the details from one paid up member to another?

Mopkop to be totally fair to the PPA guys these entries opened up in July already and everyone had ample opportunity to enter.

They even gave you a fantastic early bird price of R180 vs R300 for PPA members if you enter before 31Aug2015.

They obviously have their reasons for closing subs and entries on the same day. Subs doesnt always mean that its there for after entries have closed. Entries could have been sold out long ago then subs would still be available until the closing date.

Seriously though you are in the wrong here not the PPA but maybe just maybe you will be allowed to sub but then another 10 more guys would expect the same then it becomes a admin nightmare for them.

Good luck though!!

Any advice for a first timer.

I’m seeded in D, and have never done over 120km in a day race, is it recommended to carry extra water/food, I would hate to leave a good bunch to stop for liquids, any suggestions, advice.

Some honest advice from a 1st timer - who has done 2 x recce rides over the last two weeks.

Before the recess I had also only done 120k - well here is the truth.

1) It is far - really far - it will hurt, it will test you

2) For the first 120km you are the lego man - your favourite song is "Everything is awesome"

3) After 120km - sense of humour failure - don't ask, don't tell

4) You can actually do it - even if they have added 7km (Personal note - have not trained for this)

5) Rule number 5

It is gonna be tough, it is gonna be long - but - if you can do 120k you can do 170k :) thats what they tell me.

Hope this helps

Just add another 30km's and 2 half-hour tea breaks and it will be just as hard as the DC  ^_^

Gonna b harder than the DC. Tea breaks can afford riders to recoop more than 50%.

This is gonna b the tough one

Hi Sparkl 1 - what about the build up of lactic acid? Does this not have an effect?
