Cool. I'll be the old-ballie on a white Cannondale. :)

Respect. I'll be riding to the start from home so I'll be the cheap looking guy without a car.

Most likely, bunches will be merged

Do you think the turnout will be low enough? This seems to be a rather popular ride so if the groups are big enough I don't think there will be a lot of merging.

I started in L last year and did I think around 4h48 mins with 2 x 750ml bottles, I recon starting in C-D bunch we'll go a little faster and finish in about the same time. No need for extra water of water tables.

Spoke to Gary from PPA last week at WCE and he said from now on A bunch will always start by themselves... B and C will more than likely start together depending on numbers.

Nice! I wonder if it will actually happen though. A huge A&B group always causes problems.

That's very interesting.

Wouldn't that make it harder for an ambitious B rider to improve his seeding to A? On the flipside it's nice for the more casual riders like me who only hurt themselves & get in the way when trying to mix it up with the pros...

So overall I think it's a good idea.

Pretty much yes. That's what the hill climb seeding events were for. I went from C to A after slaughtering my legs at Red HIll. Did my first ride in A group at WCE and was happy with my finish, wasn't dropped per-say but didn't finish last in A either.

I found the start exceptionally slow. Some of the pro team riders made breaks early on while the bulk of the team sat on the front to slow down the peleton. Because of this B group came shunting and caught some of A after 20min. I hope this isn't the case come Sunday. Somehow I think not - will be interesting to see what the group looks like after Hels.

I think by the time you get to Klapmuts the strong climbers in A will be on their own - followed by a combined group of strong B climbers & A stragglers and so on..

More or less what happened last year with big Helz right at the start.

In the A bunch it is more tactical race where the overall time is not the true reflection how hard the group is. You have sections where the B guys + most of A riders will be dropping like flies then it slows down for a few km just for some them to come back. This scenario happens like 20 times in the race, only a matter of time when you going to drop.  :)

B...C....D comes along and say we were only 3 min slower than A.  :P
