Unfortunately not Gen. I live on a game reserve, far far away from any big towns. You get bitten here and it's a 3-4 hour drive to the nearest hospital with antivenom. I relocate snakes as much as I can, but I'm not trained to handle venomous snakes so not going to take a chance. Also have 3 young kids in the house, so unfortunately the snake had to go. Some snakes (like mambas) are also territorial, so chance are good they'll just come back if you don't relocate it far enough

you did that... snake heaven

Aah.. yes I understand. No you Def can't mess around with Black mambas.. especially when you are that far from help.

Personally, I would've moved lol

BUT now that you know they are really there.. Maybe you should go on one of those snake catcher courses..and keep a healthy stock of anti-venom.

Because they are territorial, even if you kill it...I'm sure it will not be long before another one "claims" the territory?

Not sure I would try catching one in the roof, even if I was trained. Mambas are flippen aggressive and in the roof you have no room to move, so if it comes for you you're in ****. Have also inquired about antivenom, it costs many thousands rondellas and you have to order a minimum of several vials. And you have to know what to do with it, otherwise you can easily kill your patient.

I suppose it also has an expiry date.  So buying it with a good chance to bin it as it expires.

So would you rather leave a 2.5m black mamba in your roof because another one could possibly move in if you kill this one? Remember, it being in the roof is almost as good as being in your house, it's so easy for them to squeeze through tight spaces.

I follow a guy called Nick Evans on facebook. He has an account called "Kwa-zulu Natal amphibian and reptile conservation". He writes the most incredible accounts of his snake catching experiences. Well worth a look at.

The name sounds familiar. I've been watching this program on Animal Planet I think, Snakes in the City. This tattooed guy catching snakes in Dbn. Even he gets the shakes every time they deal with mambas

He is the man.  Have worked with him and he certainly knows his stuff and helps out free.

One of the only guys on this planet who has been bitten by a Vine snake and can live to tell the tale.

Must have been a dry bite.

He has some very interesting stories and he is trying to get them published sometime.

Good on you Nick!

I have that unfortunate distinction. Got bitten while riding Day 2 of The Vic Falls MTB Challenge. Crossing a dam wall got bitten on my shin bone. My mates were too scared to find the damn thing in the tall thatch grass so couldn't identify it.All they wanted to know was if they could have my PYGA if I didn't make it. Bastards!

Was either a dry bite or something harmless. (War story: it was a 1.5m Puffy that came off second best) Got taken in to Vic Falls Hospital on the back of an old Landy. Discharged myself that evening with a headache and sore leg. G&T's sorted the rest out.

Was pretty terrifying at the time.

that would explain your hairstyle in the profile pic then...
