Does riding an 11-32T cassette on a Road bike make me any less of a rider?

Restarting this thread a bit now.

Currently got a short cage Ultregra 6800 RD with a 11-28T, but want to use a 11-32T for an upcoming event, but uncertain as to whether it is mandatory to change the RD to long-cage.

Seems from this thread that it is not a problem, except for if you do 53 (52 in my case) /32, which I avoid at all costs even with my current cassette.

Hi!

I run an 11-34 wth 53-39 upfront on Ultegra 9 speed , 6500 .

It works , I've put in a longer B screw.

Does it make me less of rider ?

Who cares , I can get my 84kg but up the inclines in Fourways.

HI Guys

My area sees me needing to climb some steep hills. Does riding an 11-32 make me any less of a rider? Some say just get out the saddle and ride, i decided to do the same but with some assistance of the larger gears... Whats your views ?

Regards

Sitting on the couch all weekend and not getting on your bike makes you less of a rider.

I use it.  No problems.  Just use a longer B screw.

The gearing you are comfortable with makes you a better rider,  Do it!

I have tiagra components with a sc derailleur. All the online info says 28t is the biggest ratio. I recently bought an 11-30 cassette and it works perfectly on both rings. Bit of a stretch but it works.

I'll be putting an 11-40 on for some gravel rides in due course as my noodly legs are taking their sweet time in getting stronger.

will be using a hanger extender jobbie to get the job done

I was gonna do that when i installed the 11-30, and then discovered that i don't need to.

Ride what you feel comfortable riding. I run 52/36 - 11-30. To me it’s the best thing ever.

I used to ride SRAM Force with 53/39 - 11-25.  Recently changed to 11-28, awesome.  Thinking about the 53/36.  Do one just swop the 39 with 36?  Any adjustments?

Check the BCD (bolt circle diameter) with the 53 sprocket, 39 sprocket and 36 sprocket with the SRAM Force. If they match, you're in luck. BUT then your FD might not be able to handle that jump. People often fall in these traps.

Ja, thats on the big ring, something i wont be doing when out riding.

I would go crazy having to check what gear I am in during a race.  Put the long cage derailleur on, adjust the chain and ride without worry.  Short term use one of these
