Hey Coppi. There is no place for that sort of attitude.

At no point has Hayley slated South Africa. So don't attack her.

None of the expats in this thread have slated it, its been really nice that you guys have stayed on the forum and shared your experiences with us.

This weekend was tough!

Initially I thought that petrol powered riding would be pretty easy, but the trails were long, physical and navigation required a bunch of concentration.

12hr days on the bike, came off twice, got stung by a bee while riding, my mouth burnt by neurofen (don't chew them), and had my rear brake cease up (luckily it just needed to cool down).

But man, what an adventure!

Our minimalist campsite the night before the start. Some friends back in SA said that it doesn't resemble a South African campsite at all. Tents are too small, no dining table, no kitchen gazebo, and no DSTV dish, hahahaha!

The nav system (my old Galaxy S5 with a GPX waypoiny file loaded in. I made a makeshift sun-visor for it with my L plate, becasue the sun and dust make it hard to see... especially when bombing through the countryside at 100kph, constantly checking where to turn.

Our first fuel stop in the little town of Kurow. This place is famous for being the hometown of NZ royalty... Richie McCaw.

The Black Forest Station (no forest in sight). That's Benmore dam in the distance.

The places we saw and trekked through were just incredible. From the boggy pits of Piano Flat to crossing 20+ rivers in the Remarkables and Nevis ranges. The terrain varies so much, it's insane.

Must have been epic Patches, nice one. I need to see the country like that sometime.

I can highly recommend it!

We accessed places that ony hikers and MTBers could, but we also had the ability to cover 500km/day.

Our next adventure will probably be from Christchurch to Nelson (possibly Abel Tasman), up through the centre on dirt trails, camping along the way.

Also... never again will I underestimate Kiwi farmers on farm bikes (Suzuki DR650's)... Man those guys are quick!

2nd time last night on the squash court in NZ (with "The Potgieters"), probably my 7th hour in my life and I am really enjoying it! Think I might just 'get into it' :)

Going to Raglan this weekend for the 1st time, going to try and go catch some waves! Excited. I have never been in a wetsuit though, I am going to feel like such a noob never mind look like one.

Trust me on this, with a surfing wetsuit, make sure the zip is on the back. The first time I put one on, I didn't know that - man, I looked like a complete tool :D

Haha! Whoop whoop! That's it! Get the practise out the way for when you next visit here and we'll road trip up the coast chasing waves!

For the wetsuit. Take a plastic packet with. Put your foot into it and push through the wet suit. You'll get in sooooo much easier. Can even do it with your hands to get them through the arms too. Especially if the suit you are wearing is damp or hasn't been worn in a long time. Somehow either of those scenarios makes the suit a little sticky to get on.

If the water's properly cold, you may want to get hold of an old 2plus litre water bootle. (5lt works better) and top it up with only warm water from the tap before you leave home. Put it somewhere in the sun whilst you're surfing and when you get out and get back to your rig, Open the suit and pour the warm water over. You'll warm up quick, remove the salty crustiness that settles on your face after the saltwater dries, rinse out the hair to prevent it drying out and rinse out the wetsuit, adding life to that too!
