I'm not sure why this is suddenly a thing... that sign's been there for ages - since the fire actually. It stopped cyclists for a bit, but since then, not so much.

But, I still think it'll be easier to stop cyclists from riding than getting them to keep left and not abreast.  :whistling:

Guy with a large red flag has been placed to flag you down - I just say I ride at my own risk but they think they cover themselves by having warned you with a flagwaving

man.

Do I understand the above correctly that you can cycle from Houtbay side up, but not down the Noordhoek side?.................

That is correct. But Entilini has dragged it out for so long that most cyclists just ignore it and ride Chappies all the way!

The rock falls are exacerbated by vibration from motor vehicle traffic. But of coire closing the pass to motor vehicles means no revenue so the soft targets (pun intended) carry all the risk.

Interesting while the pass is closed for repairs Entelini actually make more money than when it's open. They would love to close it to "repair" it.

so whats the chances of things still not being sorted 100% by March next year ? which will mean CTCT having to plan a new route...

Pretty good.

We drive Chappies daily to work. The repair work at the stop and go is by the municipality and its contractors. Apart from the work in Muizenberg/Kalk Bay, I have never seen such slow progress in my life.

The other stabilization work I imagine is part Entileni part CoCT. I don't see how that would progress faster, and plants take a lot of time to grow too.

The whole prohibition of cycling/walking was ill thought out and doomed to fail from the beginning. It should have been an urgent warning of the danger and a confirmation that you use the road at own risk. Right now it only puts the guards in a awkward position: I can just imagine how many insults they had to endure when they still tried to stop cyclists...

Cycled up there yesterday evening with my girlfriend. The whole thing is actually retarded IMO.

The guy frantically waving his red flag is a bit weird.

But for me the real fail is the single toll gate story. Yesterday we were close to the day pass turn around point. 2 cars had gotten day passes. But when they pulled up to the turn around point they simply drove past the guy who checks the tickets. Dumb system. They should make that road a 1 way or build a toll gate on the Noordhoek side.

BTW. The stop & go is gone.

Can one ride past the guy at the bottom in Noordhoek as easily as riding by the guy with the flag at the top?   It's not much of a solution to come down the Noordhoek side only to be unable to come back up.

has never been enforced. Thousands of cyclists on that road every weekend.

You didn't hear it from me, OK! Nobody I know was ever stopped or turned back at either end.

Edit: B.t.w. I'm not encouraging anyone else to ride there.  :)
