I don't think its possible to "do your own" Haematocrit tests due to the type of equipment required...centrifuge is required (thanks Google, ^_^ @ Odinson )

I think one of the pro cyclists was once found with one...cant recall who it was

For me the issue is that I clapped and cheered most of these guys on the podium many times. There has never been a time in cycling when doping was not considered cheating. Turning a blind eye is one thing, but I think everyone always new it was wrong.

Here's a question:

When it comes to supporting cycling, what was your "say it ain't so, Joe" moment?

Has to be the Lance Armstrong story.

After that I realised I would never trust anyone that denies something too vehemently. There are two types of dopers, those that speak vaguely because they are scared that one day the truth will come out (there are many in this camp), and those that are so vigorous in their denials and condemnations that is makes you wonder.

There seems to be a cultural divide when caught, some nations appear to own up when they make a mistake, e.g. Dutch. Some seem to support speaking vaguely and enforcing a code of silence.

Just a general observation of this thread: it is surprising to see how many hubbers seem to have a near encyclopedic knowledge of the doping rackets and methods. First hand knowledge or enthusiastic (non-)doping fundis? Secondly, it is interesting to see hubbers who come out of the woodwork to exclusively participate in doping threads, such as Lancesball.

Just my Zim 2c.

Very good post and to answer for myself only is that there is pretty much crap on the hub being spoken, its not really a cycling forum where such topics like Pro Tour racing / races, topics, team discussions etc on actual cycling related events happen which is what interests me.

This is the closest it gets for now on here that interests me and therefore I have my 2c worth which seems to not be what the pack wants to hear and seem to stick up for each other.

What some people (including myself) need to understand that there are a few select who really do know what is going on with certain topics and should be shown respect to a degree. However, there is no chance of that cause everyone here is a expert and knows everything according to them. (this comment will get slammed in about 1 replies time)

The best thing about This forum is honestly the really really good stuff you can pick up in the classifieds when guys buy the latest and greatest and then no longer use it or know how to use it and want to sell it.

There is no packs here....but rudeness and hostility normally doesn't get one very far...tone it down a tad and we could make you part of the pack without too much effort...you posts are informative (to me at least) but the general tone is where you fall short...

Was Vino for me... After Ullrich went boom I was pulled in my his aggressive racing and never say die attitude. When he went boom I had a little talk with myself. And when he came back and won LBL, Olympics etc, I really despaired for the sport and the massive fraud we were all watching. And now he's a team manager with a team full of questionable riders and results. They're not the only ones for sure, but they are the obvious litmus test for everything that is wrong in world cycling at the moment. World sport for that matter. I try tune out reality and enjoy the odd moments when I can, but that pure naive love is long gone.

2006 Tour de France Stage 17, Floyd Landis' solo break away. I landed back in SA after a few days at the Tour the morning of that stage and watched the whole stage in the afternoon live with my then 14-year old son, cheering Landis like he was cycling on water. A day or so later things went pear-shaped.

We still love cycling and the Tour, it has proven bigger than any doper, long live cycling, long live Le Tour!

Lancesball, I enjoy your posts and also the cool name. I have visions of Lance's testicle getting a life of its own and coming onto these forums. Maybe it has.

My advice to you (and myself) is that if someone tries to troll you, just ignore them.

I used to follow pro cycling very closely (pro tour, teams, riders, etc.), but each doping case makes me less and less interested. These days my cycling is about riding cool MTB races with my son and other mates, then talking k@k about cycling (i.e. on the hub).

Um, let's see, when did the veil drop? Always? I mean, remember that awesome Anquetil quote:

'Do you ever dope, Jacques?'

'Only when necessary.'

'And when is it necessary?'

'Almost always'.

Merckx, Kelly, Fignon, they were all at it. Doesn't make it right, though!!

Easy, Lancesball, you find us odious, go hang out someplace else. Don't go thinking YOU are the arbiter of who knows 'what what'. And don't chune what what, bru.

And this is what I am talking about. Bru.
