Deliberate hit and run in Cradle - Help ID Culprit

I don't think cradle praise is helping the op.

He's looking for info to find a perp, not praise for the venue

I think the cradle is a good training area.

For example, this is a nice loop of 28 km, https://www.strava.com/segments/3470613, and with the nice shoulder and fellow comrades in cycling it's a nice place to train.

Hi all,

A case has been opened. we are awaiting the investigating officer to look at it as we cannot lay a charge until they deem the case needs it. - bizarre!

i can say without a shadow of a doubt the perps numberplate is DH 00 DL GP.

this has been positively ID'd against a vehicle matching the description.

we are using the correct legal channels in order to ensure no loophole is available to the PERP in getting out if this issue.

we obviously appreciate all the help.

We would also like to appeal to all not take the law into your own hands.

Let's not label all Land Cruisers 79 type drivers as dangerous individuals.

We will however ask that should anyone site this vehicle to please post on this thread the location that you saw the vehicle.

please do not engage the driver. we do not need to pour petrol the flames.

we will post back as the case progresses

Hi Furbz.

I had a similar case happen to me about 1-1/2 years ago.

This idiot in a white bakkie-landcruiser tried to run me off the road.

I was not astute enough to take down the number plate, but I gave chase for a bit, as best I could.

In the far distance I saw him turn off into a private property.

We were on the stretch of road frequently used by cyclists in the cradle that goes from Hadeco farm to the Sterkfontein caves.

My guess is that he lives on that stretch somewhere.

I hope this corresponds to the area that you are talking about.

Please make sure that you are also lawyered up for the meeting if he will have his lawyer present.

It will be too easy for them to try and intimidate you with spurious claims of defamation or causing an accident/damage to his truck due to you not maintaining a safe following distance.

Well done.

Been following this one with interest. I'm no lawyer but surely tho this is a criminal matter? Since when does the rapists lawyer contact the victim for a meeting?

He's more than likely going to come out swinging with threats of defamation and that sort of rubbish. It's the only thing he can do. How do you defend the indefensible? Personally I'd refuse the meeting and let the thing run it's course  in the courts and hopefully put that scumbag in jail where he belongs.

The fact that he's secured the services of a lawyer (Costing him $) means you've already won. Unfortunately this will do nothing to ease the hatred between us an other road users.

Indeed if the guys modus operandi up till this point is anything to go by that is exactly what he will try.

Go prepared for this and ready for a swift offensive.

Agreed, perhaps the lawyer should just be the one in attendance for this?

the conversation i had with his lawyer was leaning toward the driver being apologetic and wanting to settle this without legal action.

Well done for taking this further, Furbz. It will take time and money. You are speaking for all cyclists, so keep cool, calm and collective!

Two thoughts, 1. As said, it's best to also get a lawyer involved from your side - edit: I see you have :), and 2. Perhaps think carefully about anything else you post here as not to undermine your case (your lawyer can confirm if it's a problem). But also try to keep us posted with the facts.

I wonder legally what impact the trial by hub could have (like the trial by media in the US which could jeopardize the case, but more relevant there because of the jury system).

Take him to the cleaners.

You're doing this for cycling in general.

What's the old saying - never trust a lawyer. Welldone on this one and please do not back down. He should get what he deserve

or it could offer an opportunity for a civil discussion between two different types of road users- and some education
