So the queues were behind you not in front of you???

Only joking.. Also never had to queue, think the organisers got that right..

hahahaha never looked back  :w00t:

No queues for me either.... was fantastic.

Got a slowed up a bit on the ST, but wasnt bothered.

Heard one guy having a whinge and he got the greatest comeback from someone else behind us - 'if you want to be at the front on the ST you must be the first up the hill!'

So, I rode the 30 with my 14 year old boy. He is a bit of a slow starter. It takes kilos for that diesel engine of him to warm up.  Problem is, I can only do hills at my speed, which meant passing lots of slow or walking people, then having to wait for him, and then pass that same people again.

There was that one place just after you ride through the river, then get a muddy grassy patch, and then a sandy uphill. Damn it, there were so many people walking up that hill, that it was difficult riding through them.

There also always seems to be hold ups on that ST next to the river on the way back after the 30 and 50km routes joined, that it is better to just sit up and take in the scenery.

In the end it was still very much enjoyable ride, and we both came in at 1h44. But I told him next year I am definitely doing the 42km.  The 30 and 50 is just way to sandy with many beginner riders.

BTW, I was riding with my new 29er.  I was smiling from ear to ear all the way.

The organizers definitely beefed up the bike storage area for this year, I doubt there was a single bike stolen from the event itself.

as i returned to my car, 3 riders also returning to their vehicle (parked a few cars away from me) caught a guy in the act of breaking into their vehicle, he manged to get away as his car was parked next to the vehicle he was trying to break into.

Sped off in a silver RunX   :cursing:

Did the 42km, tons of fun. we started in the last group, so traffic was going to be a challenge, but never an irritation. On the steep stuff, most people were walking, but managed to get up without unclipping.  A bit of traffic on the first ST, but wasnt for too long.

Did my third 42km ... Help out with medical after first waterstop, 40min waiting about  and still managed not to be last so happy :)...  (Hope Lady is ok, serious concussion....)

At least no hold ups anywhere (noone on track anymore) and of course no more snacks/banana at any of the drink tables.. sucked a bit as I took nothing to eat.

Be there next year again!

I somehow managed to convince the fiance to interupt our romantic weekend away if Franschoek to do a later entry for us - so on saturday i shot back to fetch the bikes and do late entries.

Was my first MTB race and her first cycling race of any kind. She did the 30 and i did the 42.

I had a blast - managed to stay clipped in on the climbs, loved the ST, bombed down the mountains as fast as i dared, had one small crash and one minor mechanical. But was generally awesome. Finished in around 2:20 and headed back to meet the missus (Tracked her iphone and found her just as she was crossing strand toward the finish).

She also loved it... told her to chill at water points etc but shes too competitive and didnt even stop! She took it slow and is getting her confidence up, but shes only had a bike for 3 weeks so easy does it!  I was stoked to be able to go back and finish with her.

We were like little kids the whole way home - didnt stop chatting about our races!

Next time will be more prepped annd have warm clothes so that we can hang around at the finish and enjoy the vibe!

The droewors at the one water table on the 60km was awesome! #VreetStation

I have learned a while ago to take everything i want to eat along with me. but i heard a few complaints from guys at the finish regarding the water tables on the 42 at least which wasn't that great. I only took on water at 2 of the tables. I did see one of the tables didn't have any food, or i was soo tired i didn't see any.

The results are somewhat better, but still needs work. How do you do a 42 km in 38 mins?

Some strange ones, and ones where guys obviously didnt start in their group.

Mine and my fiancees arent in there - possibly due to late entry?

Any other late entrants missing?
