If there are still election posters up in your part of the world........they make very nice ones.........even if you stick your target on them rather than to use it with your least favourite politicians face showing!

Early 50th birthday present. From Dad, to Dad. :whistling:

How do I report this post? This is causing severe distress and emotional trauma. I just settled on a GRS stock from my 300 WSM and now you come along posting %$!@ like this?!

Back to the reflection room, bottle of whiskey and pro's and con's list of each chassis system...

PS. That is sexy!!!

Mate of mine called it a time machine. I asked why? He said it's because it is so accurate over long distances, you can shoot something two days away. :D  ;)

Thats how a telescope works

Similar story, in .300 Holland & Holland, the cartridge that held all the distance / accuracy records through the 1930s! Even if I know it is old fashioned, it's just that I like beautiful wood and leather. It's a classic that proved itself through time and much use, much like me. ;)

I’ve got a random question

I’ve got an old create / box that’s the size of 6 wine bottles lying down. It’s a nice wooden box and I’m thinking of making a hunting / shooting utility type box out of it. The idea is that it’s a small box that I can load into the car for either the range or on a hunt. Won’t be a box that I can carry with me in the bush as it will be a bit heavy and cumbersome. I’m hoping to sand the box down, put some handles on it, varnish it and make it look decent.

So I’m starting to think of what I’d want to put in the box and I have some ideas. So far I’ve got the following:

Small bullet box to hold maybe 50 rounds

Knife / leatherman

Rifle cleaning equipment

Torch

Small medical kit

Allen keys / Screwdrivers

Place holder for glasses and ear protection.

If there’s space I’ll add a small coffee pot and stove J

Any suggestions on what else I could put in the box.

This is just a fun project but would like it to be practical as well.

Get a couple of dedicated gunsmithing screwdrivers. Do NOT use just any old screwdriver or your Leatherman because it will damage the screw slots sooner or later and leave them looking like ****.

yoh that CZ shoots nicely. i thought the .40 would have much more kick but its not significantly more than any 9mm that i have shot with. But it makes a moer big hole. i really love it. i can see a lot of my money going into making holes in things....

That is a very beautiful rifle.

I would start off by modding the box itself. Cut inlays on the 2 long sides and line them out with material to create a "stand" for the rifle. This is useful when cleaning, working on the rifle but also for general housekeeping for when you walk to the target etc, prevents unnecessary scratches.

From there I would go:

  1. Ammo tray;
  2. Second ammo tray to keep the spent brass;
  3. Small toolbox for dedicated tools;
  4. Cleaning kit;
  5. Flipfile with targets, also shot targets (to prove shooting activity)
  6. A pen;
  7. Stickers to cover holes, white and black;
  8. Masking tape, depending on budget and effort you would like to put into it also get yourself a foldable target stand. A modded "For Sale" sign works a charm... :whistling: You cut the horizontal parts and then add a small hinge there, folds nice and small.
  9. Medic kit;
  10. Dedicated space for glasses, earmuffs etc.
  11. Spare kit (multiple) of the cheap spongey earplugs from Dischem for other people;
  12. Flashlight (even tho it's unlikely that you will ever use it).
  13. In mine I also have space for a spare mag for my SD pistol, because 2 is one and 1 is none... And I end up being on the range alone more often than not.
  14. PS. Handles - make them the rope type that can hang loosely next to the box during transport etc.

I miss my .40. Put 2500 rounds through it one weekend and came home smiling. Such a versatile calibre, best of both worlds imo. Glad I don’t need it anymore though

Yes, I like the idea of a cleaning / work stand that is part of the box. I have seen a box with slots on the ends where you slide the uprights in that form the Vs of the cradle.

Never leave it on the table when walking forward to the target. Carry it with you. There were a few cases where firearms got nicked in a situation like that at the range. According to the law that was negligence on the part of the owner, which is a serious problem.
